PENALTY DEADLINE INFORMATION/INTENT TO REGISTER
IHSMA Registration/Penalty Policy: Events sponsored by the Iowa High School Music
Association have established registration deadlines. Both the Registration Deadline and
the Penalty Deadline are postmark deadlines. Entries postmarked after the registration/
postmark deadline must include the standard registration fee for that particular group or
individual PLUS the 50% penalty fee (to a MAXIMUM of $25.00).
IMPORTANT: CHANGES IN POLICY. Once the penalty postmark deadline has passed,
schools may still register for participation by paying the following additional penalties:
Marching Band - $100.00 per entry; All-State - $100.00 per student; Show-Jazz Choir/
Jazz Band - $100.00 per entry; Large Group - $100.00 per entry; Piano - $9.00 per entry;
Solo/Small Ensemble - $6.50 per entry. These late entries will be scheduled at the
convenience of the festival host.
Early each school year, the IHSMA will mail an “INTENT TO REGISTER” card to every
member school, requesting its completion and return. This card will provide information
relative to the programs in which each school intends participation. On the final day of any
registration period, the IHSMA office will fax or email a reminder to schools who have
declared intent to participate via this card, and from whom no entry has been received.
DATES TO REMEMBER!!
ACT tests for the spring semester are scheduled on the following dates:
February 9, 2002 April 6, 2002 June 8, 2002
Directors need to be alerted to the ACT test dates for the present semester. Careful
planning will need to be done by students to avoid conflicts with one of our spring festival
dates. The February 9 date conflicts with our Piano Festival and the April 6 date
conflicts with our Class 2A Solo/Small Ensemble Festival. In 2002-2003 the ACT test
dates will conflict with All-State Auditions, Piano Festival, and the Class 4A/1A Solo/Small
Ensemble Festival. Taking ACT’s in December or June will alleviate this problem.
The established festival dates for the 2002-2003 school year are as follows:
