Message from the Chairman 

The Past 60 Years: Building a Beacon 

During the past few years, I’ve watched Shuttle and other 

rocket launches and, like the rest of the community, thought 

about life after the Shuttle’s retirement. I am glad to see NASA’s 

space program continue with its other launches and a focus 

on the future. Meanwhile, local businesses, organizations and 

individuals are working together to meet the challenges of the 

post-Shuttle economy and we’re proud to be part of that, with 

our strong cruise business and focus on building cargo and 

recreation activity. 

Our new community and visitor facility is growing, floor-by-floor, to its full seven-story 

height and soon will be filled with displays and interactive exhibits showcasing the resources 

of our truly resourceful Space Coast community. 

Seven stories…how symbolic. In 2013, we celebrate entering our seventh decade of growth. 

This Port has developed from a local fishing harbor into one of Central Florida’s most 

powerful economic engines. Its leaders and supporters have worked steadily throughout 

its history to build a beacon that glows with hope and opportunity for the community and 

shines brightly to attract visitors from around the globe. 

So our community and visitor facility — glowing with light and visible from afar — is an 

appropriate symbol for the work of the past 60 years. When we finally stand on its seventhfloor 

observation deck, we’ll be able to look down on six decades of great accomplishments 

in the Port below us and look up and out into a bright future for the region we serve.

Cruise clearly is our strongest business and, although we have to 

look harder and harder for prospects, it continues to grow. Just 

as clearly, cargo has lots of room for growth. We’ve been busy 

building new infrastructure and analyzing new trade partners 

and opportunities. 

However, even with some of our business areas not yet operating 

at full throttle, we’re setting records and we’re very competitive 

in the industry. We may not be the biggest port, but it’s tough to beat our strength and 

innovation. 

My favorite vision of the future is an unending pipeline of projects. When we’ve completed 

one, we’ll go on to think of something even better. That’s the path of growth. I want to be 

able to say ‘If you thought this year was great, wait until next year…’ for many years to come.

They were solid long-term strategies.

Frankly, it has been an amazing year that we 

can’t wait to share with you! 

Build on Our Strengths 

Results 

Port Canaveral is Florida’s fastest growing cruise port* 

and second busiest cruise port in the world. 

(And look for three Disney homeported ships in 2014.) 

2011 was a record-breaking year for Port Canaveral. 

We were hoping for another in 2012. What we got was 

a record-shattering year. 

Using Strength to Our Advantage 

Port-of-call cruise service began in 1973 at Port 

Canaveral; homeported multi-day cruise service 

followed in 1984. Cruises have been a strong 

business for us, thanks to our central location, lack of 

congestion, low-stress atmosphere and closeness to 

the most popular Florida attractions. Building upon 

these strengths to entice cruise lines and their guests, 

we’ve experienced a 38 percent surge in multi-day 

passengers in the past two years while port-of-call ship 

visits have increased from 86 to 123. Our homeported 

casino cruise line, Victory Cruises, continues to build a 

market in partial-day cruises out of the Port. 

In fact, according to the 2011 Cruise Lines International 

Association Economic Impact Study, Port Canaveral 

currently is the fastest growing cruise port in Florida, 

the nation’s busiest cruise state. 

While cruise growth statewide was modest in 2011, 

with an increase of 2.4 percent in multi-day passenger 

embarkations, Port Canaveral massively outpaced 

this average with a 15.1 percent increase in multiday 

passenger embarkations. Nearly 200,000 more 

passengers sailed from Port Canaveral in 2011 than in 

2010. Then, in 2012, passengers numbers rose sharply 

again, boosting us from third place to second among 

the world’s busiest cruise ports, surpassed only by the 

teeming Port of Miami.

Build on Our Strengths 

Keeping Them Coming 

Currently, we host the largest fleet of year-round homeported 

ships in Florida. Our passenger counts have risen as more and 

larger vessels have arrived, including the Disney Dream and 

Carnival Ecstasy in 2011 and Disney Fantasy in 2012. Clearly a 

port’s success depends on its ability to attract and retain ships, 

and cruise lines are motivated to base ships where the numbers 

are advantageous. Our Port’s predominantly family market 

results in more passengers per stateroom, on average, and our 

fleet typically sails at or above 100 percent capacity. 

Community Benefits 

Success in the marketplace means one thing to us — a strong, 

positive economic impact on the residents and businesses of 

our area. 

Total Port revenues in FY 2012 were a record-breaking $68.9 

million, up 17 percent over the record set in FY 2011 and that 

is great news for our community. We stopped collecting ad 

valorem taxes more than 25 years ago and solid annual revenue 

growth helps us to remain off the tax rolls. They allow us to 

re-invest in Port infrastructure to keep the successes rolling and 

maintain our momentum as one of the region’s most powerful

economic engines. They give us money on hand to seize 

opportunities when they arise and pursue new projects, all of 

which create more local jobs. 

Maintaining Our Competitive Edge 

Competition among ports for cruise ships is fierce and 

unrelenting. We constantly work to maintain our fortunate 

position by providing clear benefits for ships and guests and 

fostering strong positive relationships with our homeported and 

port-of-call cruise lines. 

In early 2012, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) announced 

that it would replace the departing Monarch of the Seas with 

the newly revitalized 2,730-passenger Enchantment of the 

Seas. Beginning in April 2013, Enchantment will offer itineraries 

to Nassau and the Bahamas. 

On March 6, 2012, hundreds of Disney employees and local 

residents lined the shores of Jetty Park before dawn to watch 

the magnificent sister-ship of one-year-old Canaveral resident 

Disney Dream make her historic homeport entrance. The glow 

surrounding the Disney Fantasy’s 1,115-foot-long, 14-deck-high 

silhouette crested the horizon before the sun, accompanied 

by a display of fireworks. She arrived with style and, more 

importantly, with thousands of additional passengers annually 

and 500 new jobs for the local area. 

This year, for the first time, more than one million Disney 

passengers moved through Port Canaveral. In December, an 

exciting announcement came from Disney Cruise Line. For the 

first part of 2014, we will host three Disney ships, as Disney 

Magic returns to her original homeport to help her sister ships 

meet the high demand for sailings out of Central Florida.

Broaden Our Reach 

Results 

New cargoes, ships and berths. 

In addition to building upon our known strengths, we 

continually search for new strengths to develop in every 

nook and cranny of our core businesses 

Cargo Canaveral and Seaport Canaveral 

Port Canaveral welcomed its first cargo ship in 1955. 

Today, economic cycles and industry changes — new major 

players, larger ships, the Panama Canal expansion and 

shippers’ needs for competitively priced options — have 

created an environment of transformation and opportunity 

in the cargo business. 

Pursuing the future of cargo requires a dual-focused 

initiative: expanding our cargo handling capacity and 

making the industry aware of what we can do for them. 

The first is a matter of building facilities and the second 

involves marketing. We’re building a new marketing effort 

around the brand “Cargo Canaveral” to let shippers know 

how they can increase their business and profits by shipping 

through our Port. 

Expanding our cargo business also involves the establishment 

of strong, profitable partnerships. Seaport Canaveral fuel 

terminal invested $2.5 million in new infrastructure at 

the Port to add the capabilities of receiving, blending and 

distributing bio-fuels. The first vessel carrying domestically 

produced bio-fuel arrived in mid-February 2012. 

Seaport Canaveral’s investment has positioned Port 

Canaveral to become a leader in a growing market. The 

federal renewable-fuel mandates that made ethanol/ 

gasoline blends so common at gas stations now include 

requirements for bio-fuel use. In 2015, new regulations 

go into effect requiring the cruise industry to switch from 

heavy bunker fuel to diesel-grade oil, creating a demand 

for bio-fuel by cruise ships. We will be ready. 

The Cargo Canaveral team will be adding a new partner in 

2013, when Bluewater Terminals completes and opens its 

13-acre facility on the north side of the Port. 

All-American Marine Highway 

In 2012, the brand new American Phoenix made her first 

port call on her maiden voyage at Seaport Canaveral. This 

new ship is involved in a type of cargo service with great 

promise for Port Canaveral. We were designated as a major 

node in the federal Marine Highways initiative two years 

ago. The Act which regulates Marine Highway or coastal 

shipping requires that goods transported by water between 

U.S. ports (without stopping outside the country) be carried 

in U.S.-built, U.S.-flagged ships, owned and crewed by U.S. 

citizens, but few ships are being built in the U.S. today. The 

U.S.-flagged American Phoenix, however, came out of a 

shipyard in Alabama, and she and her 22-man U.S. crew 

carried 13.6 million gallons of gasoline from Lake Charles, 

Louisiana to the Seaport Canaveral fuel terminal. 

Where Will New Cargo Go 

In late 2010, the Board of Commissioners approved 

development of new cargo facilities. We already had 

added long conveyors and mooring dolphins between 

piers to accommodate existing volume. We knew that in 

a vibrant economy, Seaport Canaveral alone would soak 

up half our existing capacity and, after a cargo lull, there 

were signs of awakening in the industry and interest in 

Port Canaveral’s potential. 

Using our Port can save time and money on cargo going 

to and from Central Florida, including the Orlando area, 

in comparison to shipping through Jacksonville, Fort 

Lauderdale or Miami. Shippers might be interested, but 

the facilities must be in place and no substantial general 

cargo marine terminal operator or steamship line makes 

a long-term commitment to a port without a long-term 

assurance of dock availability. It was essential to make the 

commitment to start ahead of the full economic recovery 

to be ready for new cargo business. 

Our $45.7 million project to build new cargo berths made 

substantial progress in FY 2012 and will be completed 

in FY 2013.

Think Outside the Box 

Results 

Fast-tracked for 2013 completion: an iconic community and 

visitor facility with interactive exhibits and an entertainment 

venue suitable for local and national acts. 

There are two stages in every innovation — imagining what 

could be and making it happen. In 2012, we moved our 

exciting Cove Redevelopment project solidly into stage two. 

Destination Canaveral 

For several years, a dramatic makeover/expansion for The 

Cove — our waterfront dining and entertainment district 

— has been on the drawing board. The bold concept 

pushes the envelope of what a seaport can be. From 

the beginning, by opening park facilities to the public, 

we’ve been making Port Canaveral a destination for 

local residents in search of a day, or evening, or weekend 

of recreation. Now, our Port is primed to become a 

destination with a capital D, drawing visitors from near 

and far and boosting tourism throughout the county. 

In June 2012, we took the first step beyond the drawing 

board by breaking ground on the project’s lynchpin, an 

iconic seven-story building which will function as a visitor/ 

tourist attraction and a community meeting and event 

space. GWWO Inc., a Baltimore-based architecture firm, 

designed the arced shape of the building’s solid spine to 

resemble a rocket, surfboard, ship’s hull, sail or shell, all 

images of life in the coastal county of Brevard. Even from 

the outside, the building is intended to tell the stories of 

the unique community within which it resides. 

A Space Coast Story, 

Told in Form and Function 

On the inside, the community and visitor facility will be 

a gateway, not only to The Cove but also to the larger 

experience of Florida’s Space Coast and its many tourist 

attractions. British design firm Haley Sharpe Design — 

which has created displays for famous attractions around 

the world such as the Smithsonian’s National Museum of 

American History in Washington, D.C. — has the exciting 

task of using leading-edge interactive technology to make 

this facility a visitor magnet.

virtual ship bridge from which visitors could pilot a cruise ship 

through the Canaveral harbor or a display of the changing Brevard 

coastline through history. Exhibits throughout the building will 

take visitors on a journey through 12,000 years of area history, 

from shipwrecks, treasure hunting, military battles and Ponce de 

Leon’s Florida landing, to the resources, industries and attractions 

of today’s Space Coast. 

Build It and Entertainment Will Come 

As the first structural elements of the new community and visitor 

facility rose in solitary grace above the site of future projects, 

our Board of Commissioners took another step and approved 

moving forward with development of an outdoor amphitheatre 

in The Cove. 


A market and feasibility study completed prior to the project’s 

approval predicted excellent chances for success in attracting 

top-name national acts as well as hosting community-based 

performances and events such as lectures and graduations. 

Designed for phased construction, the completed $9 million 

project will feature 6,000 seats with a professional stage and full 

support functions. Phase 1, scheduled to open in fall 2013, will 

have an initial capacity of 1,200 seats, with eventual expansion 

to 6,000, along with restrooms, vending and other services, a 

46-foot by 64-foot stage and backstage facilities. 

Opportunities Create Excitement 

The master Cove Redevelopment could accommodate half-amillion 

square feet of retail and office space, providing many 

opportunities for businesses and job seekers. The full expansion 

is expected to happen in stages over the next five to ten years. 

Our first two fast-tracked projects are creating hundreds of 

local construction jobs; the amphitheater alone will employ 

300 workers. Businesses that supply services and products to 

construction companies also will benefit. 

Completed, these projects will provide fresh opportunities to 

draw Orlando residents and visitors to the coast. The presence 

of the community and visitor facility and the amphitheatre will 

boost activity well beyond The Cove. Thousands of people 

who come to these facilities will dine, shop, stay in local hotels 

overnight or visit other Space Coast attractions, creating a ripple 

economic effect on local retailers, hospitality providers, suppliers 

to these businesses and more. 

Of course, the excitement is just beginning. Currently, we are 

researching the best ways to develop new venues in The Cove. 

On January 2, 2013, we held a Canaveral Cove Master Plan 

Workshop to update the community on what has been completed 

so far and to elicit valuable public input on how best to proceed. 

Discussions with interested developers in 2013 will determine the 

retail and dining establishments that open here in 2014. 

We understand that this is a project with the potential to 

bring major attention to our community. We believe due 

diligence and care, balanced with action and quick response 

to opportunity, constitute our best approach to bringing this 

innovative vision to life.

Anticipate the Future and Build For It 

Results 

Cruise Terminal 6 opens 11 months after ground-breaking, 

welcoming third homeported Carnival ship; Channel widening 

and deepening starts in 2013; New cargo berths open soon; 

Inter-Agency Maritime Operations Center complex completed. 

What’s the rush some might ask, but in our experience, it sometimes 

requires a solid head start and fast tracked construction to be ready on 

time to meet customers’ needs. 

Terminal Velocity 

We started Cruise Terminal (CT) 6 before we had business to 

fill it. Which was almost soon enough. Design development 

was well under way, but ground-breaking was several

months in the future when Carnival requested dockage for a 

third homeported ship. It was necessary to renovate one of 

our older terminals as a temporary home for Carnival Ecstasy, 

but in August 2012, CT6 met its 11-month fast-track goal for 

completion and opened immediately to a capacity crowd of 

Carnival guests. 

No, we didn’t have a crystal ball, but we knew that our 

homeported ships and booming port-of-call business rapidly 

were filling up our dock days. We also knew that lower loan 

rates and construction costs made it an optimal time to build 

and that a new construction project could create jobs at a time 

when they were badly needed in our community. 

CT6 is the first new cruise terminal at the Port in more than 

15 years and features a sleek facade, stunning views and a 

focus on passenger comfort and convenience. Its high-volume 

processing capacity and adjustable gangways accommodate a 

wide range of ship sizes, including the largest coming out of 

the shipyards today. An adjacent parking garage also opened in 

2012 for Terminals 5 and 6. Retail space was incorporated into 

the garage design, a first for the Port, and shops are opening as 

leases are signed with independent vendors. One new facility is 

an Internet café and retail store that caters to crewmembers on 

short breaks or passengers who want a cup of coffee or a few 

last minute personal items to take onboard. 

During construction, Cruise Terminal 6 created much-needed 

jobs for 490 workers. A strong commitment to local participation 

resulted in 82 percent of the project’s total jobs and material 

orders coming through 45 Brevard County firms. Although the 

construction jobs have ended, the facility has opened the door 

to new cruise business and permanent jobs. According to a 

study by consultants Martin & Associates, Carnival Ecstasy alone 

has created more than 1,000 new full-time jobs. 

There is a close relationship between our business successes and 

our community’s welfare. To strengthen the tie, the formal grand 

opening of Cruise Terminal 6 was combined with the launch of 

the United Way of Brevard’s 2012 fund-raising campaign in a 

Wizard of Oz themed event that broke attendance records.

Anticipate the Future and Build For It 

Light at the End of the Channel 

We foresaw the need for navigational improvements to our 

channel many years ago, as ship designers first began to 

dream of the larger cruise and cargo vessels that now sail 

the seas. The Canaveral Harbor channel was built originally 

for 800-foot-long vessels, but now regularly welcomes 

1,100-foot ships. 

This much-needed infrastructure improvement was 

complicated by federal procedural requirements. (The 

channel is under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Corps of 

Engineers.) We have worked tirelessly to move it forward, 

including funding and completing our own $19 million 

project in 2011 to cut off the corner of the West Turning 

Basin. Two key successes in 2012 moved the channel 

widening and deepening forward significantly. 


Florida Governor Rick Scott, during a pre-opening tour of CT6, 

announced $24.4 million in state funding for the channel 

construction project, cutting out the time-consuming pursual of 

Congressional approval and shaving four years off the process. 

Several years ago, we had decided to prepare our own feasibility 

studies for the project. This little-used alternative to waiting for 

Corps of Engineers’ studies can shorten the approval process by 

a full decade. In 2012, our studies received approval from the 

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers national Civil Works Review Board 

and was submitted for the federal and state agency review that 

precedes approval by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for 

Civil Works (ASA(CW)). ASA(CW) approval could be received as 

early as this spring. 

With funding in place and geo-technical surveying, permitting 

and design drawings proceeding, we will be ready for immediate 

preparation and submittal of the Project Partnership Agreement 

(PPA) which enables construction to begin. With a July 2013 

start, the project could be complete by Fall 2014. 

Emergency Response Personnel 

Moved to Center of New Activity 

Receipt of funding from the Port Security Grant Program enabled 

the Port Authority implement a concept that had been in 

development for several years: to move public safety, emergency 

services and operations to the growth center of cruise and cargo 

activity on the north side of the Port. 

The Inter-Agency Maritime Operations Center was designed 

as a cluster of three buildings on a 3.3-acre site. The Port 

Canaveral Police Department headquarters building opened 

in 2011. In early 2013, the Port Operations building and new 

north-side fire station were completed and opened. The new 

fire station can cut response times to incidents on the north 

side of the harbor significantly.

FEMA’s applause; recognition for fiscal transparency — 

21 years in a row; stronger communication lines to 

our community. 

Business development is critical. But there’s more 

to managing a port well: we can never forget our 

responsibility to the people who use our Port and those 

who are impacted by its activities. 

A Model for Other Ports 

We received $12 million in federal Port Security 

grants between FY 2007 and FY 2011, much of 

which was used to develop and equip Florida’s 

first Port police force. In 2012, we received our first 

monitoring visit in a decade from representatives of 

the national and regional offices of FEMA (Federal 

Emergency Management Agency) as part of their job 

of administrating these grants. They spent several days 

inspecting sites impacted by the funding, including 

the Inter-Agency Maritime Operations Center (IMOC), 

Mobile Operations Center, Port fire boat and more. 

Impressed with the projects and Port’s ability to obtain, 

manage and implement them, FEMA announced its 

intention of using Port Canaveral as a model for all 

ports to follow. 

21 Years of Exceptional Transparency 

For the 21st consecutive year, in 2012 we received the 

Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial 

Reporting from the Government Finance Officers 

Association, the highest recognition for governmental 

accounting and financial reporting. 

The award recognizes annual financial reporting 

that goes beyond the minimum requirements in 

demonstrating a spirit of full disclosure. To win this 

award, we have to include additional information in our 

financial statements and ensure that the information is 

as clear and easy to comprehend as possible. The goal 

is increased financial transparency to readers of these 

statements and we are proud to have met that goal — 

which we consider a responsibility to our community 

— consistently for more than two decades.

Stakeholders Gain More Information Pipelines 

For many years, we’ve been working to ensure our constituents 

know exactly what is happening at their Port. Our awardwinning 

bi-monthly Port magazine has been published in print 

form for 19 years and as an e-publication for three years. 

In 2012, we added two newsletters to our communications 

program to link the community to Port news. BizNotes is an 

e-newsletter created for the business community to provide 

information on the latest developments and opportunities at 

the Port. Its news briefs are quick to read with links to additional 

information and videos. 

Port Beacon, a spin-off of our bi-monthly newspaper page, 

now also is an e-newsletter providing articles, photos and links 

with pertinent information about Port plans and progress plus 

available community involvement, enrichment and recreational 

resources. Subscriptions to the environmentally friendly and 

interactive digital versions of the Port magazine, BizNotes and 

Port Beacon are delivered automatically by email. 

We also have continued the practice of video-recording our 

public Commission Meetings in full. Each meeting is broadcast 

live on our website and archived there for viewing at any 

later time.

Invite the Public In 

Results 

Community briefings, educational forums, and Sail-a-Brations 

draw growing response; overnight cabins open; thousands 

enjoy major sports/entertainment events. 

We regard our community as both a vital motivator and 

partner in our success. While some seaports wall themselves 

off from their communities, we are dedicated to a policy of 

welcoming the public in – for business, education and fun. 

Face Time 

In addition, we are working to provide face-to-face 

opportunities for our community to learn about their 

Port. In January, we sponsored a Commissioners’ Brunch, 

giving community leaders, professionals, Port tenants and 

others a chance to meet and talk with the Port Authority

Veteran cruise passengers know that the bon voyage 

party is one of the best moments of a cruise and on the 

afternoon of March 31, thousands of people gathered on 

the waterfront to celebrate the Fantasy’s departure and 

wave her on her way as she sailed for the first time from her 

home port. Admission was free but participants were asked 

to bring a non-perishable food item for a local charity. Our 

community responded with generosity to their neighbors 

In May, Port CEO Stan Payne spoke before a capacity crowd 

at the Port’s third annual State of the Port Community 

Briefing. More than 300 people registered for the breakfast 

meeting at the Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront before the 

available seating was filled. Attendance at this informative 

community event has been increasing every year. 

We also held several community briefings on The Cove 

redevelopment project, one of the most exciting projects 

ever undertaken at Port Canaveral. The briefings offered 

businesses and all interested parties direct access to 

project information and answers to their questions. 

A 2012 International Trade Forum was sponsored by the 

Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Florida’s 

Space Coast and Port Canaveral. Designed both for local 

firms new to international trade and those currently involved 

in import/export, the program gave us an opportunity to 

help educate companies that are interested in growing 

their business through global expansion and to introduce 

them to our facilities and capabilities. 

Fun Time 

One of our favorite reasons to bring our community 

together is to celebrate successes. In recent years, the ‘Saila-Brations’ 

we’ve hosted to mark the first-time departures 

of each of our new homeported ships have drawn large 

crowds to Jetty Park. This year’s ‘Sail-a-Bration’ for the 

Disney Fantasy was no exception.

residents but also to attract the tourist market that contributes 

significantly to the local economy. 

Thirty-five acre Jetty Park, the largest of our parks, welcomes 

overnight guests from near and far. In 1966, when Jetty Park 

opened, there was option for overnight accommodations 

— bring your own pup tent. In 2012, a $1.13 million project 

brought the total of tent and RV sites up to more than 200 

and added an entirely new overnight option — cabins. Less 

than a minute walk from the beach, the new cabins sleep four 

and include half baths and air-conditioning, with private picnic 

tables and grills outside. 

High-visibility events also bring in visitors and, in addition, 

they fill thousands of hotel rooms and generate revenue and 

priceless publicity for local businesses. 

In 2012, we hosted an annual event on Super Boat International’s 

Grand Prix racing circuit and the annual ‘Vettes at the Port’ 

show, a variety of fishing clinics and contests, street parties, a 

new car event called Rods N’ Rockets and an Oz-themed kickoff 

dinner for United Way fundraising. For 2013, we expect 

a similar variety of public events. We also are honored to be 

hosting the American Association of Port Authorities’ 102nd 

Annual Convention October 13-17, 2013, with activities in Port 

Canaveral, Orlando and Cocoa Beach. “Explore Our Florida” is 

the unifying theme and we are eager to help promote all the 

things there are to see and do in east Central Florida.

of Cruise Terminal 6 to benefit United Way of Brevard.

2011 was a record-breaking year for Port Canaveral. A record year is great, 

but what we really want is for this to be the first in a string of record years. 

STRATEGY: 

Build on our strengths and amplify our successes. 

Records Made to Be Broken 

In FY2011: 

• Total revenues neared $57.8 million, eclipsing the 

previous record by 13 percent. 

• Multi-day cruise passenger count increased 

14 percent over 2010 to a new record of more than 3.1 

million. 

• Multi-day cruise revenue rose 16 percent over 2010 to 

hit record-breaking $40 million +. 

• Gaming passenger revenue increased 

15,000 percent. 

• Eighty percent rise in petroleum volume led to a record 

3.4 million tons. 

• Cargo tonnage increased 41 percent overall — 

to within 6,000 tons of the historical Port record. 

• Cargo revenue rose nearly 20 percent over 2010. 

The numbers speak for themselves. Each dollar 

of added revenue means more dollars spread 

throughout the region, a bigger impact, a more 

pronounced ripple effect…in other words, a 

greater good. 

Promoting Success 

Port Canaveral has a long history as a successful 

cruise port. We’re known for our low-stress 

arrival and departure experience, our location 

near desirable vacation and port-of-call 

destinations and, overall, for our ability to fill 

ships to capacity. 

By getting that message out, we use our successes 

to attract even more. In 2011, we added seasonal 

sailings by the Norwegian Sun; the nextgeneration 

Disney Dream arrived with 

acclaim; and Carnival Cruise Line celebrated two 

decades of partnership with the 2010 “Carnival
