Helping You Cope
Established in 1977, Nottingham Counselling Service (NCS)
provides one-to-one counselling services, therapy and
therapeutic support to men and women, aged 16 and
over, living within Nottinghamshire and further afield into
the East Midlands. NCS has provided support, advice and
therapy to thousands of people over the last 35 years.
As one of the most respected and long-established counselling providers,
NCS has a wealth of trained counsellors, so they can help with almost any
problem, but they mainly deal with:
• Stress
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Low Self-esteem
• Relationship Problems
• Bereavement
• Trauma
• Other Abuse, in particular women who have suffered sexual abuse
during childhood
An independent, registered charity, NCS have recently moved to new,
larger premises as Managing Director, Leslie McDonald, explained: “We
realised about two years ago that we’d outgrown the old premises so,
after identifying the building we wanted to move into, we set about
designing a five-year strategy and funding plan to enable us to acquire
the building and do it up, so it was fit for our purpose; we now have a
modern premises which is double the size of our old premises. This allows us
to offer more services, we now have eight counselling rooms and we are
in the process of recruiting more counsellors. We also have rooms for hire
for training and meetings. The building has been refurbished to meet our
own customised requirements, so no longer do we have to make do with
an inadequate building; we’ve got somewhere designed and built for our
specific purposes.
“Overall, the plan for the next five years is to continue to provide
professional, high quality counselling and therapy, but we’re looking
to expand. Expand the number of clients we can see each month,
expand the services we can offer these clients, and expand to reach
different clients within the local area. These new premises, on Kent Street
in Nottingham, will enable us to push forward with the next phase of
development and provide more services within a better, purpose-built
environment.”
and explore difficult
emotions. Clients also
commented positively
on our counsellors and
administration staff.”
Due to a loss of funding
from the NHS and Local
Authorities, NCS are
appealing for donations,
which will enable them
to continue to provide
support to the most
vulnerable people.
Previous Client Testimonial:
“The level of service provided has been excellent. There is friendly face
when you arrive and this is very important. Everything is explained and my
counsellor was very understanding. I wish you the best of luck in the new
premises, keep doing your fantastic work.”
NCS are highly rated for their support and guidance by the people who
matter most – the clients. On average, they score 93% satisfaction rate.
Their most recent ‘client experience’ study discovered the numerous
ways in which counselling from NCS has helped clients, including better
self-understanding, improved mood and outlook on life and a reduction in
negative feelings and behaviour. The client feedback was overwhelmingly
positive.
Leslie added: “Over the years, NCS has provided support to thousands
of vulnerable people across Nottingham. The purpose of our ‘client
experience’ study was to assess the effectiveness of the service we
currently provide to enable us to provide a better service in the future. Our
clients say we’ve helped them feel empowered to take positive action to
improve their lives, learned strategies and tools to cope better in daily life
and dealt with difficult past events. Clients said that our counselling offered
them a much-needed opportunity to talk confidentially in a safe space
