6. Sexual <strong>Gender</strong> Based Violence: Nationwide<br />
<strong>In</strong>itiatives and Coordinated Responses<br />
Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) “calls upon all parties<br />
to armed conflict to respect international law applicable to<br />
the rights and protection of women and girls.”<br />
Security Council Resolution 1820 (2008) “calls on all parties<br />
to take special measures to protect women and girls<br />
from gender-based violence, particularly rape and other<br />
forms of sexual abuse, and all other forms of violence in<br />
situations of armed conflict.”<br />
Since 2006, UNMIL has participated in the National Task Force on<br />
<strong>Gender</strong> Based Violence, chaired by the MoGD, which acts as the<br />
main body for coordination of the national response. A National<br />
Plan of Action on GBV, developed in 2006 by the Government,<br />
serves as a guiding document for the Government`s response<br />
and donor support to address this practice across the 15 counties,<br />
setting a timeline for ridding the country of SGBV by 2011.<br />
