mechanism; training and participatory programmes to promote<br />
local level policy inclusion; technical and resource support to<br />
MoGD, including the creation of long-term frameworks; and<br />
advice and guidance for gender sensitive policy making within<br />
government systems.<br />
One of the necessary actions was to mobilize the participation<br />
of women in the local communities through strategic advocacy<br />
networks. <strong>In</strong> 2006, UNMIL OGA delegated significant resources<br />
to strengthening the Women’s NGO Secretariat of Liberia<br />
(WONGOSOL.) While WONGOSOL already had many involved<br />
members throughout the country and had been very active in<br />
the peace process, its ad-hoc nature and a lack of a centralized<br />
director and location had prevented it from reaching its full<br />
potential. Seventy-six women members of WONGOSOL came<br />
together in a general assembly tasked with nominating and<br />
voting for an institutional board of directors which, in turn,<br />
selected a director. This resulted in an expanded network of<br />
