Peterson Elementary<br />
This group <strong>of</strong> educators from<br />
Peterson Elementary, along with their<br />
DPI Instructional Coach, Jenn Hatch,<br />
presented at the North Carolina<br />
Collaborative Conference for Student<br />
Achievement. Tanya Fore-McDonald,<br />
Lisa Zekanis, Renae Oxendine, Sharon<br />
Phillips, Ashley Bailey, and Sara Hall<br />
accompanied Ms. Hatch to the<br />
conference to share the amazing<br />
instructional shifts Peterson has been<br />
making this year. They gave two<br />
presentations detailing the hard work<br />
and growth <strong>of</strong> the school's teachers<br />
and students; Anchor Texts as an<br />
Instructional Tool and Collaborative<br />
Web Based Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development.<br />
Both presentations were well received<br />
and highlighted the passion <strong>of</strong> these<br />
great Tiger teachers.<br />
The Journey Begins<br />
The new beginning for the children<br />
in Peterson Elementary School started<br />
on April 17 as the parents and<br />
students begin the registration<br />
process in the gym with the assistance<br />
<strong>of</strong> nurses, bus driver, teachers, and the<br />
school counselor, Rosemary<br />
Hemingway and assisted by Mrs.<br />
Bonnie Mack and Mrs. Tonia<br />
Ferguson.. Pre-k and kindergarten<br />
registration begin at 8:30 am and<br />
ended at 2:30 pm. Both the parents<br />
and students were pleased with the<br />
door prizes and gifts packs given to<br />
them on behalf <strong>of</strong> Mrs. Katherine<br />
McDaniels and the <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Robeson</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />
Drummers under the directions <strong>of</strong><br />
Mr. Rick Dial, music teacher; provided<br />
an outstanding performance for the<br />
Red Springs Head Start and<br />
Pembroke Shining Stars during their<br />
orientation visit to Peterson. The<br />
teachers and students were greeted<br />
by Ms. Rosemary Hemingway, school<br />
counselor. Fourth grade students<br />
provided the tour <strong>of</strong> the school<br />
campus.<br />
Appointment to<br />
West Point<br />
David Singh, Jr. <strong>of</strong> South<br />
<strong>Robeson</strong> High School has been<br />
appointed to The United States<br />
Military Academy at West Point.<br />
Only ten percent <strong>of</strong> candidates are<br />
chosen to receive this honor.<br />
David will receive a full four year<br />
scholarship valued at over<br />
$200,000 covering tuition, room,<br />
board, and medical care as well as<br />
a monthly stipend. Upon<br />
graduation, David will be<br />
commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant<br />
in the Army and plans to make the<br />
Army his career. David is the only<br />
student from SRHS to ever receive<br />
this appointment. The faculty and<br />
staff <strong>of</strong> SRHS are very proud <strong>of</strong><br />
South <strong>Robeson</strong> HS<br />
David and applaud his hard<br />
work and commitment.<br />
David was chosen as the<br />
number 1 Cadet at Junior Camp<br />
Leadership Camp where he<br />
commanded approximately 1000<br />
Army JROTC cadets. David has<br />
served as a Regimental Executive<br />
Officer for the last two years and<br />
is currently second in command in<br />
the <strong>Robeson</strong> <strong>County</strong> JROTC<br />
Regiment. He is ranked as a<br />
Cadet Lieutenant Colonel in SRHS<br />
JROTC.<br />
David is the son <strong>of</strong> Pamela<br />
Singh and David Singh, Sr. He<br />
resides with his grandparents,<br />
James and Patsy Hunt, brothers<br />
Jonathan Singh and Jashand<br />
Singh, and cousin Darian Hunt.<br />
