the planning <strong>of</strong> this trip.<br />
Fairmont High inducted 40<br />
Students into the National<br />
Technical Honor Society on April<br />
11th at LSHS. The most <strong>of</strong> any<br />
high school… Go Fairmont !!!<br />
Fairmont High School<br />
conquered the Big Apple.<br />
The students at Fairmont High<br />
got their opportunity to conquer<br />
New York City. 36 students visited<br />
New York City from April 18-20.<br />
While there, they visited Times<br />
Square, the Empire State Building,<br />
the 9/11 Memorial, a cruise around<br />
the Statue <strong>of</strong> Liberty, Chinatown,<br />
and Radio City Music Hall. The<br />
FHS group also attended a<br />
Broadway Musical – “Phantom <strong>of</strong><br />
the Opera.” Students saw this as<br />
an educational and cultural<br />
opportunity <strong>of</strong> an lifetime. We<br />

HILBERT<br />
Fairmont High School recently<br />
hosted Dr. Pamela Hilbert,<br />
President <strong>of</strong> <strong>Robeson</strong><br />
Community College at its<br />
quarterly Community Leaders<br />
Breakfast. Dr. Hilbert informed the<br />
audience <strong>of</strong> the great things<br />
happening at RCC and shared with<br />
the students the importance <strong>of</strong><br />
being well prepared for the future.<br />
Fairmont <strong>May</strong>or Charles Kemp was<br />
also in attendance and spoke <strong>of</strong><br />
his admiration for the partnership<br />
that continues between the town <strong>of</strong><br />
Fairmont and the school. Student<br />
participants included James<br />
Campbell, Hannah Henderson,<br />
Andrew Stephens, Rokia Hunt,<br />
Tyrik Alford, Matthew Miles, Dustin<br />
Register, Shawn Horne, Anthony<br />
Swett and Christopher<br />
Hammonds and Morgan Hunt.<br />
The breakfast series will<br />
conclude on Friday, June 7th<br />
at 8:45am in the cafeteria.<br />
FAIRMONT HIGH SCHOOL<br />
RECEIVES ACCREDITATION<br />
Fairmont High School recently<br />
completed the accreditation<br />
process through AdvancEd.<br />
Reviewers were on campus<br />
March 12th through the 13th<br />
completing interviews and making<br />
observations based on the five<br />
standards: Purpose and Direction,<br />
Governance and<br />
Leadership,Teaching and<br />
Assessing for Learning, Resources<br />
and Support Systems and Using<br />
Results for Continuous<br />
Improvement. A highlight <strong>of</strong> the<br />
process was the student focus<br />
group where randomly selected<br />
students were afforded the<br />
opportunity to provide feedback on<br />
the educational process at<br />
Fairmont High School. The on-site<br />
visit concluded on Wednesday,<br />
March 13th with the exit interview<br />
where faculty, staff and students<br />
were notified that Fairmont High<br />
School would receive endorsement<br />
for the five-year accreditation with<br />
no recommendations.<br />
Congratulations to Principal<br />
Kent Prater, the administration,<br />
faculty, staff and students for a job<br />
well done.<br />
