Communicator

P2CBT
The P2CBT communicator is intended for remote readout of electricity meters on the level of industrial consumption. It enables bi-directional
data transmission from the meter to the centre and vice versa. The communicator can be connected both to electronic multifunction meters
and industrial meters with a tariff device. The communicator is equipped with RS232, RS485 and CS communication interfaces for connection
with the meter, and PSTN, ISDN and GSM modems for connection with the centre for data collection. Data transmission is performed in
compliance with the EN 61107 protocol (mode A, B, C or D) or the IEC 870–5–102 protocol (Din 19244 Slave).
Communicator functions
The communicator is a programmable, processor-supported device where parameters can be set locally via an
optical interface or remotely via a modem. A Poreg2View program is used for setting parameters of communicator
operation (made by Iskraemeco) or an optional terminal program can be used.
The communicator enables the following functions:
– Acquisition of measuring data via various communication interfaces
– Storing of read billing data in a permanent memory (a load curve cannot be stored!)
– Data conversion from the EN61107 protocol to the IEC 870-5-102 protocol (DIN 19244 Slave)
– Relaying of read measuring data via a modem to a centre
– Multi-level data protection
– Management of real time and related time function
– Monitoring of operation and management of a log book
– Supervision of a built-in modem operation
It is possible to connect simultaneously 1 meter to the RS232 channel, 4 meters to the CS – 20 mA current loop,
and 31 meters to the RS485 channel. Each meter should be provided with a unique identification number.
Although up to 36 meters can be connected to one communicator at the same time, data transfer can be performed
only from one meter at a time! If the CS channel is not used, short-circuit connection is required!
Operation
The communicator supports three
modes of data transmission, and at
the same time also provides for
data security and supervision of the
modem operation.
IEC 1107 MASTER
Data transmission between the
meter and the communicator is
performed in compliance with the
EN 61107 protocol (A,B,C and D
modes are supported), and
between the communicator and the
centre for data collection in compliance
with the IEC 870-5-102
protocol (Din 19244 Slave). Data
reading can be activated remotely
from the centre, automatically with
adjustable time period or by pressing
a special key on the meter.
Readout data can be stored in the
communicator or they can be
transmitted directly into the centre.
Capacity of the internal memory in
the communicator does not enable
storing of load profile data!
CASCADE
It is intended for transparent meter
readout in compliance with the
EN 61107 standard, C mode, without
rate change over. A request for
reading a certain meter received by
the communicator on a modem
channel is transparently transmitted
via all communication channels to
all meters. The meter with a corresponding
identification number
answers to the request and establishes
connection with the centre.
Data transmission rate should be
fixed and the same at all meters.
EN61107 CASCADE
It is intended for transparent meter
readout in compliance with the
EN 61107 standard, C mode, with
rate changeover. Data transmission
is performed in the same way as in
CASCADE, only that the communicator
receives the request at an
optional rate (usually 9600 Bps),
converts it to 300 Bps and sends it
to the meters. A corresponding
meter answers to 300 Bps about the
rate it requires for communication.
The communicator transmits the
answer to the centre at the original
rate (usually 9600 Bps). Communication
is then performed with the
rate that is set in the meter.
DATA SECURITY
Data as well as parameters that are
stored in the internal memory are
protected with three protection
codes (a device code, a user code
and a user password). All three
codes are required for connection
with a communicator. Up to eight
users with different rights (data
reading, parameter changing, etc.)
that have the access to the communicator
can be defined.
The access to the meters can be
protected also with the a password
in a transparent or a cascade mode
of operation. Two protection modes
are supported in the communicator;
at both of them a cascade channel
opens only if a corresponding
password is known.
SUPPORT FOR GSM MODEM
A Central processing unit (CPU)
permanently monitors a GSM
modem operation. After connection
to supply voltage, it provides for
correct GSM module switch-on, it
writes PIN and PUK codes, selects
the operator and registers itself into
network. CPU then permanently
checks the modem operation and
measures signal strength. If abnormal
operation of the GSM module
is stated, CPU resets it and registers
it again into network in compliance
with the described procedure.
Communicator operation can be
monitored via seven LEDs.
