PROGRAM INFORMATION<br />
The Process Technology (PTEC) program at BRCC is a selective admissions program that addresses a high-demand field. It prepares<br />
individuals to <strong>be</strong>come refinery, chemical, and other industry re<strong>late</strong>d operat<strong>or</strong>s. The curriculum leading to the Process Technology<br />
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) was developed in collab<strong>or</strong>ation with local industry. It is a rig<strong>or</strong>ous study of the common<br />
operating processes found in industrial plants that <strong>will</strong> prepare students f<strong>or</strong> high skill, high wage jobs needed in the manufacturing<br />
industry. Upon graduation from the program, students are prepared to enter the employment market as entry-level process operat<strong>or</strong>s<br />
f<strong>or</strong> a specialty career in a strong job market.<br />
In <strong>or</strong>der to <strong>be</strong> eligible f<strong>or</strong> admission to the Process Technology Program, the applicant must first <strong>be</strong> admitted to <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong><br />
Community College (BRCC). The College application is online at http://www.mybrcc.edu. The Process Technology Program<br />
application and all supp<strong>or</strong>ting documents must <strong>be</strong> received by the designated deadlines. Applicants <strong>will</strong> <strong>not</strong> <strong>be</strong> considered f<strong>or</strong><br />
admittance to the Process Technology Program until all required documents have <strong>be</strong>en submitted and the applicant’s file is complete<br />
by the deadline specified on the coversheet. A copy of the application and all supp<strong>or</strong>ting documents should <strong>be</strong> retained by the applicant<br />
since the Process Technology Program <strong>will</strong> <strong>not</strong> return the <strong>or</strong>iginal application <strong>or</strong> any supp<strong>or</strong>ting documents. Admission to the Process<br />
Technology Program is competitive and <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> based on the following criteria: 1) GPA in 15 credit hours of required courses, 2) num<strong>be</strong>r<br />
of required courses completed with a grade of "C" <strong>or</strong> higher at BRCC and 3) student’s sc<strong>or</strong>e on the PTEC admission test.<br />
It is imp<strong>or</strong>tant to <strong>not</strong>e that simply meeting requirements f<strong>or</strong> admission to the PTEC program does <strong>not</strong> guarantee admission.<br />
APPLICATION PROCESS<br />
STEP 1 BATON ROUGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />
1. Complete an application online.<br />
2. Pay a $7.00 application fee online <strong>or</strong> at the Bursar’s Office.<br />
3. Schedule and attend new student <strong>or</strong>ientation/testing/advising (f<strong>or</strong> first-time college students). F<strong>or</strong> transfer students who<br />
have completed college Math and English with a C <strong>or</strong> <strong>be</strong>tter, meet with advising in Magnolia South.<br />
4. Check on payment options such as financial aid, deferred pay and scholarships at the Financial Aid Office.<br />
5. Print schedule.<br />
6. Pay tuition and fees by payment due date.<br />
7. Obtain a student ID card.<br />
8. Register your car and obtain parking decal at the Public Safety Office.<br />
9. Print schedule the week <strong>be</strong>f<strong>or</strong>e classes <strong>be</strong>gin to <strong>be</strong> aware of changes that have occurred.<br />

1. Must have completed BRCC admission requirements.<br />

3. Applicant must have a GPA of 2.6 and a grade of “C” <strong>or</strong> higher in the following 15 credit hours of courses.<br />

4. Submit completed and signed Process Technology Application Checklist to Christy Wallace in Enrollment Services, by the<br />
deadline indicated.<br />
5. Submit a signed copy of the PTEC Application Checklist and schedule the exam with the Division of Technology<br />
Co<strong>or</strong>dinat<strong>or</strong> in Cypress Room 236.<br />
6. Take and pass PTEC admission exam with a cumulative sc<strong>or</strong>e of 70 <strong>or</strong> above. NOTE: The PTEC admission exam sc<strong>or</strong>e<br />
remains active f<strong>or</strong> 2 (two) years, and may <strong>be</strong> taken a maximum of 2 (two) times within the two year period. Retake is <strong>not</strong><br />
allowed in the same semester.
7. Submit all of the following to the Division of Technology Co<strong>or</strong>dinat<strong>or</strong> by the deadline indicated:<br />
a) Health Hist<strong>or</strong>y, Physical Abilities Test (estimated cost $45)<br />
MUST <strong>be</strong> completed at Total Occupational Medicine (TOM) <strong>or</strong> by your primary care provider.<br />
If your health hist<strong>or</strong>y and physical abilities test <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> completed by Total Occupational Medicine, you are<br />
required to pick up a signed Medical Auth<strong>or</strong>ization F<strong>or</strong>m from Christy Wallace in Enrollment Services.<br />
Cost <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> incurred by student.<br />
All completed Health Hist<strong>or</strong>y and Physical Abilities rec<strong>or</strong>ds must <strong>be</strong> submitted to the Technology<br />
Department office by the date indicated.<br />
b) Drug Screen (estimated cost $30)<br />
MUST <strong>be</strong> completed by Total Occupational Medicine <strong>or</strong> by your primary care provider.<br />
If your drug screen <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> completed by Total Occupational Medicine, you are required to pick up a signed<br />
Medical Auth<strong>or</strong>ization F<strong>or</strong>m from Christy Wallace in Enrollment Services.<br />
Cost <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> incurred by the student.<br />
Students, who test positive on the drug screen, <strong>or</strong> any attempt to tamper with a specimen, may subject the<br />
applicant to disqualification of their application and/<strong>or</strong> dismissal from the PTEC program.<br />
c) Criminal Background Check and Fingerprint Cards<br />
BRCC’s Process Technology Program requires all applicants to submit to a criminal background check pri<strong>or</strong><br />
to enrollment in the program; <strong>not</strong> to <strong>be</strong> confused with the TWIC card requirements.<br />
Cost <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> incurred by the student.<br />
Certain criminal activity, as evident by the criminal background check, may disqualify student from<br />
admission to the Process Technology Program.<br />
8. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.<br />
STEP 3 SELECTION NOTIFICATION<br />
1. All applicants <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> <strong>not</strong>ified of admission status (Admitted <strong>or</strong> Denied) by letter.<br />
2. Upon acceptance to the Process Technology program, students should obtain the following certifications by the last day of<br />
final exams in the semester of entry to the PTEC program. If the last day of exams falls on a Saturday, you must turn the<br />
inf<strong>or</strong>mation in by 5:00 PM on the preceding Friday.<br />
Certifications<br />
Students are required to obtain their TWIC (Transp<strong>or</strong>tation W<strong>or</strong>ker Identification Credential) cards. Students who fail<br />
to do so by the specified deadline are subject to disqualification of their application and/<strong>or</strong> dismissal from the PTEC<br />
program.<br />
Students are required to obtain their OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) card, with a minimum of<br />
10 hours. Students who fail to do so by the specified deadline are subject to disqualification of their application<br />
and/<strong>or</strong> dismissal from the PTEC program.<br />
Students may complete STEC 204 to obtain their 30 hour OSHA card.<br />

<strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> Community College’s (BRCC) Process Technology Program seeks highly qualified students. Applicants with higher<br />
GPAs in the prerequisite courses, a higher sc<strong>or</strong>e on the admission test, who take their pre-requisite courses at BRCC, and whose<br />
application is received earlier <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> ranked higher in the applicant pool. Keep in mind that a student who meets the minimum<br />
requirements may compete against a student who exceeds the minimum requirements. However, no student is guaranteed<br />
admission.<br />
7. How <strong>will</strong> my GPA <strong>be</strong> calcu<strong>late</strong>d<br />
Only the above prerequisite courses are used to calcu<strong>late</strong> each applicant’s composite GPA. Since admission is competitive, the<br />
higher the composite GPA, the <strong>be</strong>tter the chance of admission.<br />

The PTEC admission test is a standardized aptitude test that is computer-based and administered on BRCC’s campus. A minimum<br />

Not at the present time.<br />
17. Can I continue to w<strong>or</strong>k while completing the PTEC program<br />
It is possible f<strong>or</strong> students to maintain employment during their academic career in the Process Technology program. However,<br />
students must keep in mind that their final course, PTEC 291 Process Technology Internship, may require shift w<strong>or</strong>k. This may<br />
interfere with n<strong>or</strong>mal w<strong>or</strong>k hours.<br />
18. Are student loans available Will financial aid apply<br />

19. Why do I have to submit to a criminal background check<br />
Many manufacturing jobs require employees to submit to criminal background checks and/<strong>or</strong> obtain TWIC cards. A student may<br />
<strong>not</strong> <strong>be</strong> admitted to the PTEC program if the background check is unfav<strong>or</strong>able by industry standards.<br />
20.Why do I have to submit to a Physical Abilities Test<br />
Many manufacturing jobs require employees to submit to a physical abilities test.<br />
21. Is the Process Technology program accredited<br />
Yes. BRCC’s Process Technology program is currently accredited by ATMAE (The American Association of Technology,<br />
Management, and Applied Engineering) .<br />
