PROGRAM INFORMATION
The Process Technology (PTEC) program at BRCC is a selective admissions program that addresses a high-demand field. It prepares
individuals to become refinery, chemical, and other industry related operators. The curriculum leading to the Process Technology
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) was developed in collaboration with local industry. It is a rigorous study of the common
operating processes found in industrial plants that will prepare students for high skill, high wage jobs needed in the manufacturing
industry. Upon graduation from the program, students are prepared to enter the employment market as entry-level process operators
for a specialty career in a strong job market.
In order to be eligible for admission to the Process Technology Program, the applicant must first be admitted to Baton Rouge
Community College (BRCC). The College application is online at http://www.mybrcc.edu. The Process Technology Program
application and all supporting documents must be received by the designated deadlines. Applicants will not be considered for
admittance to the Process Technology Program until all required documents have been submitted and the applicant’s file is complete
by the deadline specified on the coversheet. A copy of the application and all supporting documents should be retained by the applicant
since the Process Technology Program will not return the original application or any supporting documents. Admission to the Process
Technology Program is competitive and will be based on the following criteria: 1) GPA in 15 credit hours of required courses, 2) number
of required courses completed with a grade of "C" or higher at BRCC and 3) student’s score on the PTEC admission test.
It is important to note that simply meeting requirements for admission to the PTEC program does not guarantee admission.
APPLICATION PROCESS
STEP 1 BATON ROUGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. Complete an application online.
2. Pay a $7.00 application fee online or at the Bursar’s Office.
3. Schedule and attend new student orientation/testing/advising (for first-time college students). For transfer students who
have completed college Math and English with a C or better, meet with advising in Magnolia South.
4. Check on payment options such as financial aid, deferred pay and scholarships at the Financial Aid Office.
5. Print schedule.
6. Pay tuition and fees by payment due date.
7. Obtain a student ID card.
8. Register your car and obtain parking decal at the Public Safety Office.
9. Print schedule the week before classes begin to be aware of changes that have occurred.

STEP 2 DEPARTMENT OF PROCESS TECHNOLOGY ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. Must have completed BRCC admission requirements.
2. Must attend a Group Advising Session. For additional information, please contact the Division of Technology Coordinator
at 225.216.8226.
3. Applicant must have a GPA of 2.6 and a grade of “C” or higher in the following 15 credit hours of courses.

NOTE: Admission to the PTEC Program is competitive. A weighting factor of 0 – 5 will be used depending on the number
of prerequisite courses taken at BRCC. (i.e. If two prerequisite courses were completed at BRCC, the weighting factor is
2.)
4. Submit completed and signed Process Technology Application Checklist to Christy Wallace in Enrollment Services, by the
deadline indicated.
5. Submit a signed copy of the PTEC Application Checklist and schedule the exam with the Division of Technology
Coordinator in Cypress Room 236.
6. Take and pass PTEC admission exam with a cumulative score of 70 or above. NOTE: The PTEC admission exam score
remains active for 2 (two) years, and may be taken a maximum of 2 (two) times within the two year period. Retake is not
allowed in the same semester.

7. Submit all of the following to the Division of Technology Coordinator by the deadline indicated:
a) Health History, Physical Abilities Test (estimated cost $45)
MUST be completed at Total Occupational Medicine (TOM) or by your primary care provider.
If your health history and physical abilities test will be completed by Total Occupational Medicine, you are
required to pick up a signed Medical Authorization Form from Christy Wallace in Enrollment Services.
Cost will be incurred by student.
All completed Health History and Physical Abilities records must be submitted to the Technology
Department office by the date indicated.
b) Drug Screen (estimated cost $30)
MUST be completed by Total Occupational Medicine or by your primary care provider.
If your drug screen will be completed by Total Occupational Medicine, you are required to pick up a signed
Medical Authorization Form from Christy Wallace in Enrollment Services.
Cost will be incurred by the student.
Students, who test positive on the drug screen, or any attempt to tamper with a specimen, may subject the
applicant to disqualification of their application and/or dismissal from the PTEC program.
c) Criminal Background Check and Fingerprint Cards
BRCC’s Process Technology Program requires all applicants to submit to a criminal background check prior
to enrollment in the program; not to be confused with the TWIC card requirements.
Cost will be incurred by the student.
Certain criminal activity, as evident by the criminal background check, may disqualify student from
admission to the Process Technology Program.
8. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
STEP 3 SELECTION NOTIFICATION
1. All applicants will be notified of admission status (Admitted or Denied) by letter.
2. Upon acceptance to the Process Technology program, students should obtain the following certifications by the last day of
final exams in the semester of entry to the PTEC program. If the last day of exams falls on a Saturday, you must turn the
information in by 5:00 PM on the preceding Friday.
Certifications
Students are required to obtain their TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) cards. Students who fail
to do so by the specified deadline are subject to disqualification of their application and/or dismissal from the PTEC
program.
Students are required to obtain their OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) card, with a minimum of
10 hours. Students who fail to do so by the specified deadline are subject to disqualification of their application
and/or dismissal from the PTEC program.
Students may complete STEC 204 to obtain their 30 hour OSHA card.
Cost will be incurred by the student.

3. Students who accept the offer for admission must attend a MANDATORY pre-admission PTEC orientation session, date
and time to be announced.
4. Students who are not accepted for admission should schedule an appointment for academic advising with the Dean of the
Division of Technology.

1. What are prerequisites
Prerequisites are courses that must be completed before another course can be taken. For example, ENGL 102 has a prerequisite
of ENGL 101…you must complete ENGL 101 prior to taking ENGL 102.
2. What prerequisite courses are required for Process Technology
Five prerequisite courses are required to apply for admission to the PTEC program:

6. What does “selective admissions” mean
Baton Rouge Community College’s (BRCC) Process Technology Program seeks highly qualified students. Applicants with higher
GPAs in the prerequisite courses, a higher score on the admission test, who take their pre-requisite courses at BRCC, and whose
application is received earlier will be ranked higher in the applicant pool. Keep in mind that a student who meets the minimum
requirements may compete against a student who exceeds the minimum requirements. However, no student is guaranteed
admission.
7. How will my GPA be calculated
Only the above prerequisite courses are used to calculate each applicant’s composite GPA. Since admission is competitive, the
higher the composite GPA, the better the chance of admission.
8. Is there an admissions test Is there a study guide
The PTEC admission test is a standardized aptitude test that is computer-based and administered on BRCC’s campus. A minimum
composite score of 70 is required. A study guide for the test is available. The PTEC admission exam score remains active for 2
(two) years, and may be taken a maximum of 2 (two) times.
9. How many applicants will be selected for admission
Several factors will determine the actual number of students admitted:
availability of faculty
availability of classroom and lab space
10. Do you have a waiting list
No, we do not have a waiting list. Applicants who are not admitted must maintain their eligibility and reapply to the Process
Technology program during the next application cycle.
11. Can I go to school part-time
Yes.
12. How long is the program
Five (5) academic semesters if attending full time.
13. Will transfer credit be accepted
Credit may be accepted for courses transferred from an accredited college or university…for details, check with BRCC’s
Enrollment Office.

14. How can I set up an appointment for advisement
You will be assigned a designated PTEC advisor once you are accepted into the program.
15. What time will courses be offered
The prerequisite courses and general education courses in the PTEC curriculum may be offered during the day, evening, or
weekend. PTEC courses will be offered at designated times (to be determined) and must be taken in sequence.
16. Does BRCC offer childcare
Not at the present time.
17. Can I continue to work while completing the PTEC program
It is possible for students to maintain employment during their academic career in the Process Technology program. However,
students must keep in mind that their final course, PTEC 291 Process Technology Internship, may require shift work. This may
interfere with normal work hours.
18. Are student loans available Will financial aid apply

19. Why do I have to submit to a criminal background check
Many manufacturing jobs require employees to submit to criminal background checks and/or obtain TWIC cards. A student may
not be admitted to the PTEC program if the background check is unfavorable by industry standards.
20.Why do I have to submit to a Physical Abilities Test
Many manufacturing jobs require employees to submit to a physical abilities test.
21. Is the Process Technology program accredited
Yes. BRCC’s Process Technology program is currently accredited by ATMAE (The American Association of Technology,
Management, and Applied Engineering) .
22. Where do I obtain my TWIC and OSHA cards
