Wilson Williams, a hit<br />
maker on his own prior to<br />
joining The Platters (he recorded<br />
with ABC Records, and<br />
was one of the last to use<br />
Motown’s Funk Brothers for his<br />
backing band), is blessed with a<br />
rich baritone voice that handles<br />
the pretty ballads with a smooth<br />
mellow voice or R&B with a gut<br />
wrenching, gravelly style.<br />
In the late sixties, his first big<br />
break came when he became a<br />
member of the famed Virginiabased<br />
gospel group “The Peerless<br />
Four”. He would eventually<br />
land a role in Rev. Butler’s, civil<br />
rights-inspired musical “Selma” in<br />
1976, playing the role of Reverend<br />
Jesse Jackson for two<br />
years. Not long after he scored<br />
a solo hit with “Up The Downstairs.”<br />
This show is one of our most<br />
