of local rural spice farms to smell, touch and
taste cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, vanilla
and one of Zanzibar’s most popular spices –
cloves, as well as tropical fruits. Discover the
origins of each spice and how they are used in
medicine as well as in cooking. A visit to the
Persian Baths built by Seyyid Said bin Sultan
in 1850 for his wife Princess Sheherazade is
also included.

Wander around the Nairobi home of
Karen Blixen, the author who wrote
Out of Africa under her pen name Isak
Dinesen. Out of Africa tells the tale
of Karen’s life on a coffee plantation
in Kenya and her doomed love affair
with Denys Finch Hatton. Take a
short drive to the Giraffe Centre just
outside Nairobi to feed the Rothschild
giraffes, and later visit the Daphne
Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage,
home to rescued baby elephants. The
elephants are inquisitive, so expect a
trunk heading in your direction.
