During this journey through the heart of the beautiful
Garden Route and Winelands, your accommodation
throughout will be in Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa
(FTTSA) country houses, hotels and lodges.
FTTSA is a non-profit organisation which supports
sustainable tourism development through the award of a
certificate to companies which commit themselves to the
Fair Trade criteria of fair wages, fair working conditions, just
profit sharing and respect for human rights, culture and the
environment. All components of Kuoni’s ananea package
tour to South Africa, from Kuoni UK and Private Safaris (our
agents in South Africa) through to the accommodation
providers and the contractual relationships in the value
chain have been audited against Fair Trade Tourism
standards and certified by Fair Trade in Tourism South
Africa (FTTSA). This assures you that the people whose
land, natural resources, labour, knowledge and culture
are used to support the tourism activities you are
enjoying are actually benefitting fairly from them.

CAR HIRE h Europcar Group B vehicle from Day 5-15
including a ‘co-pilot’ pack that features a tailor made
travel guide with detailed driving directions, map,
suggested sightseeing and restaurant recommendations.
A one-way drop-off fee is payable locally.
NB h The majority of wine estates in the Paarl, Franschhoek
and Stellenbosch region close on Saturday afternoons and
Sundays. Table Mountain cableway closes for maintenance
for a few days during July/August – please check for
details. All activities are optional and at extra cost.

DAY 8 h After breakfast, leave Plettenberg Bay and pass
through Knysna, Wilderness, George and Mossel Bay on your
way to Swellendam, South Africa’s third oldest town. Perhaps
visit the Drostdy Museum (a collection of several historical
buildings) or Marloth Nature Reserve for an afternoon walk.
Spend tonight at Jan Harmsgat Country House.
DAY 9 h Today, make your way to the Cape Overberg region.
Enjoy optional activities such as horseriding or fynbos trails
in the reserve. Excursions in the area include land and boat
based whale watching (August to December), marine eco
tours, wine tasting or a visit to the Shipwreck museum in
Bredasdorp. Your destination and accommodation for the
next two nights, Farm 215, lies on the Fynbos Road, which
stems from Stanford to the southernmost point of Africa,
the Cape Agulhas. Here, sustainability is implemented in an
exemplary manner, from using organic local produce to
solar power and recyclable waste water. For a supplement
you can also choose to stay at Grootbos Nature Reserve,
prices and details available on request.
DAY 11 h Take a leisurely drive through the Cape Winelands
to Stellenbosch. Be sure to visit Oom Samie se Winkel – a
traditional local trading shop in Dorp Street. Stay at the
Spier Hotel for three nights. Spier produces its own wines
and is the first winery to be accredited by the Wine
Industry Ethical Trade Association – enjoy wine tasting in
the courtyard, lounge or in the ‘barrel tasting cellar’.
DAY 13 h Enjoy time at leisure exploring the surrounding
area. Optional activities include wine tastings and cellar
tours or a visit to the Village museum in Stellenbosch. In
nearby Franschhoek, visit the Huguenot Museum and local
wine farms, or journey to Paarl and visit Fairview Wine
Farm for goats cheese and wine tasting. Perhaps head into
Cape Town and spend time exploring the shops and
restaurants of the V&A Waterfront. Take a cable car to the
summit of Table Mountain, see the adorable penguins at
Boulders Beach or take a tour of the Cape Peninsula.
Return to the Spier Hotel for your final night.
DAY 14 h Drive to Cape Town to drop off your rental car at
the airport ahead of your onward journey. Alternatively,
extend your stay with a few days in historic and beautiful
Cape Town. Prices available on request.
