Congratulations to the Grade 9 public speakers who participated in the QAIS Public Speaking
run-offs last week. In first place, Gabriel Balass; second place, Theo Cape; and third place, Nico
Cossette.
Re-Enrolment Forms due: If you have not yet sent in your re-enrolment form, please send it in
to the attention of Debbie Dragone in the Business Office.
Friday, April 5: Grade 10 retreat for all Grade 10 students returning 3:00 p.m.
Friday, April 5: Grade 9 "Vivre le Québec" histoire trip returning Friday night around 8:30 p.m.
All senior students to bring in $10 for Dagwoods orders on Monday, April 8 for the Spring
Carnival lunch during the Senior School Spring Carnival with The Study on Friday, April
12. The Study girls are joining us for spring carnival activities and lunch at SHS, which will run
from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Proceeds from Dagwoods will be donated to the MUHC. Please
note that no lunch served in Coristine Hall on April 12 for senior students so money for
Dagwoods orders is needed.
Monday, April 8: Hotchkiss Summer Portals Information Session, 12:30 p.m. Rossy Agora –

Wednesday, April 10: Grade 9 Academic Information Session: during TAG at 9:30 a.m. in the
Rossy Agora. Grade 9 students will be informed about their course selections for the 2013-2014
school year. Mr. Colin Boyle will be sending information home to parents. Parents are welcome
to come, although the presentations will be similar to that done back in Grade 8. Students have
until April 15th to complete their choices online. If you have any queries, please contact Mr. C.

Dance lessons for Grade 11 students for Grad: Thursdays 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. for 5-6 weeks
starting the second or third week of April, the basics of ballroom dancing, tango, foxtrot, samba,
rumba, with dance teacher, Sylvia Delpeuch, artistic director and a choreographer with more than

A group size of 10 couples needed; Grade 11 students, sign up quickly.

a.m. in Coristine Hall

Enjoy a delicious Italian dinner while being entertained by our Old Boys' Blues Band.
6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Proceeds from this event will be donated to the VIVO Fund benefiting the Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit of the Jewish General Hospital.

The Study C4 Career Conference is scheduled for April 15. The conference is targeted to
students in Grades 10 & 11. Selwyn House students are invited to attend, and we will reimburse
the conference cost of $15 for SHS students who would like to attend. (Sign up on-line, submit
the receipt for reimbursement.)

Who: Any Grade 10 & 11 student
Registration: Go to www.c4action.com and follow instructions under the Attend menu.
The Format: C4 is a two hour event consisting of ten round table discussion, each headed by a
speaker. There will be 8‐10 students per table. Each discussion will last twenty minutes (ten
minute presentation followed by a ten minute question period). At the end of twenty minutes, the
speakers will change tables. Each student will participate in three sessions. For a detailed list of

Wednesday, April 17: Euclid Math Contest: The Grade 11 calculus class will be writing the
Euclid math contest. This contest is 2.5 hours long. Students will start at 8:00 a.m. They will
miss first period, TAG and half of second period.

Thursday, April 18: New Ventures Fair: Selwyn House is once again hosting its annual New
Ventures Fair. Each year the students in the Grade 11 economics class are required to put
together business plans. The results are put on display at the New Ventures Fair. We are looking
for volunteer judges to give the boys feedback on their business plans and their pitches.
Originally, we ran it similarly to what you see on Dragons' Den, but this year we are adding
some roving judges to visit the boys' kiosks and give them some more immediate feedback, so a
few extra judges are needed. If you are available on April 18 for an hour or more between 2:00 -
5:30 p.m., and you feel confident giving the boys some feedback on their plans, please contact

Monday, May 13: Denim Day – Students and staff are invited to wear jeans, dress in denim on
Monday May 13. (Please note that our school is holding its Denim Day, a day earlier than
National Denim Day as there is a New Parent Reception at Selwyn House on May 14 ) We are
collecting a donation of $2 or more per person for the CURE Foundation for breast cancer
research. Income Tax receipts will be issued for a donation of $20 or more if the donation is by
cheque payable to the CURE Foundation.
