Congratulations to the Grade 9 public speakers who participated in the QAIS Public Speaking<br />
run-offs last week. In first place, Gabriel Balass; second place, Theo Cape; and third place, Nico<br />
Cossette.<br />

Friday, <strong>April</strong> 5: Grade 10 retreat for all Grade 10 students returning 3:00 p.m.<br />

Carnival lunch during the <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>School</strong> Spring Carnival with The Study on Friday, <strong>April</strong><br />
12. The Study girls are joining us for spring carnival activities and lunch at SHS, which will run<br />
from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Proceeds from Dagwoods will be donated to the MUHC. Please<br />
note that no lunch served in Coristine Hall on <strong>April</strong> 12 for senior students so money for<br />
Dagwoods orders is needed.<br />

Wednesday, <strong>April</strong> 10: Grade 9 Academic Information Session: during TAG at 9:30 a.m. in the<br />
Rossy Agora. Grade 9 students will be informed about their course selections for the <strong>2013</strong>-2014<br />
school year. Mr. Colin Boyle will be sending information home to parents. Parents are welcome<br />
to come, although the presentations will be similar to that done back in Grade 8. Students have<br />
until <strong>April</strong> 15th to complete their choices online. If you have any queries, please contact Mr. C.<br />

Dance lessons for Grade 11 students for Grad: Thursdays 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. for 5-6 weeks<br />
starting the second or third week of <strong>April</strong>, the basics of ballroom dancing, tango, foxtrot, samba,<br />
rumba, with dance teacher, Sylvia Delpeuch, artistic director and a choreographer with more than<br />

The Study C4 Career Conference is scheduled for <strong>April</strong> 15. The conference is targeted to<br />
students in Grades 10 & 11. <strong>Selwyn</strong> <strong>House</strong> students are invited to attend, and we will reimburse<br />
the conference cost of $15 for SHS students who would like to attend. (Sign up on-line, submit<br />
the receipt for reimbursement.)<br />

The Format: C4 is a two hour event consisting of ten round table discussion, each headed by a<br />
speaker. There will be 8‐10 students per table. Each discussion will last twenty minutes (ten<br />
minute presentation followed by a ten minute question period). At the end of twenty minutes, the<br />
speakers will change tables. Each student will participate in three sessions. For a detailed list of<br />

Wednesday, <strong>April</strong> 17: Euclid Math Contest: The Grade 11 calculus class will be writing the<br />
Euclid math contest. This contest is 2.5 hours long. Students will start at 8:00 a.m. They will<br />
miss first period, TAG and half of second period.<br />

Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 18: New Ventures Fair: <strong>Selwyn</strong> <strong>House</strong> is once again hosting its annual New<br />
Ventures Fair. Each year the students in the Grade 11 economics class are required to put<br />
together business plans. The results are put on display at the New Ventures Fair. We are looking<br />
for volunteer judges to give the boys feedback on their business plans and their pitches.<br />
Originally, we ran it similarly to what you see on Dragons' Den, but this year we are adding<br />
some roving judges to visit the boys' kiosks and give them some more immediate feedback, so a<br />
few extra judges are needed. If you are available on <strong>April</strong> 18 for an hour or more between 2:00 -<br />
5:30 p.m., and you feel confident giving the boys some feedback on their plans, please contact<br />

Monday May 13. (Please note that our school is holding its Denim Day, a day earlier than<br />
National Denim Day as there is a New Parent Reception at <strong>Selwyn</strong> <strong>House</strong> on May 14 ) We are<br />
collecting a donation of $2 or more per person for the CURE Foundation for breast cancer<br />
research. Income Tax receipts will be issued for a donation of $20 or more if the donation is by<br />
cheque payable to the CURE Foundation.<br />
