levels were radiometrically dated (C-14).
Individuals of this species may reach a larger
size than other known species of the genus,
reaching a similar size to that of Cavia aperea
Erxleben. This new species is characterized by
a greater development of the interpremaxilar
foramen, the rhomboid incisive foramen, wide
palate, and robust zigomatic arch. This species
became extinct during historical times.

An exceptionally rich rodent assemblage of
Lujanian age (latest Pleistocene) at La Angostura
(26 degrees 55' 30" S, 65 degrees 41' 50"
W, Tafi valley, Tucuman province; 1900 m
above sea level) provides the first evidence of
sigmodontine rodents in the fossil record of
northwestern Argentina. Identified taxa are:
Abrothrix illuteus Thomas, Akodon sp.,
Necromys cf. N. lactens (Thomas),
Oxymycterus cf. O, paramensis Thomas, Oligoryzomys
cf. O. flavescens (Waterhouse),
Oligoryzomys cf. O. "longicaudatus" (Bennett),
Andinomys edax Thomas, Calomys cf. C.
laucha C. musculinus, Neotomys ebriosus
Thomas, Phyllotis sp., Reithrodon auritus
(Fischer), and dagger Tafimys powelli Ortiz et
al. These include the first fossils of the genera
Neotomys Thomas and Andinomys Thomas in
Argentina. Taphonomic analysis indicates that
the assemblage is a fossil owl pellet accumulation.
Consequently, it can be assumed to be a
biased representation of the small mammal
fauna of a relatively small area over a relatively
brief time span. This association has no
modern analogue because today these species
live at different altitudinal vegetation belts.
The fauna indicates a community from the
high-altitude grassland ecotone, with elements
of the Yungas, Puna and High Andeans. Temperatures
may have been lower than today.
Although the species composition is similar to
the modem sigmodontine community in the
area, quantitative variations in proportional
representation can be attributed to Holocene
climatic conditions and, probably, to the impact
of human populations in historical times.

Hind limb osteoderms of an individual assigned
to Glyptodon clavipes Owen, from the
Pleistocene of Uruguay are described. A great
number of these bones were observed in the
foot, as well as in the calf and thigh. These
elements had been cited for gliptodonts, but
their form and distribution had never been
studied.

Djaludjangi yadjana sp, nov, represents a
previously unknown genus of petauroid possum
from Riversleigh in northwestern Queensland.
Of known phalangeridans Djaludjangi
most closely resembles the Petauridae, but
lacks synapomorphies previously used to define
that family. Although considered likely a
plesiomorphic petaurid, D. yadjana is referred
here to Petauroidea: incertae sedis, pending
comprehensive revision of phalangeriform
dental character state distributions, Small possum
diversity at Riversleigh indicates a complex
and finely partitioned environment such
as that found in present-day tropical forests;
the discovery at Riversleigh of Australia's first
Tertiary dactylopsiline species also argues for
a rainforest palaeohabitat.

lydekkeri)、 梅 花 鹿 (Cervus (Sika) nippon)、
葛 氏 斑 鹿 (Cervus (Sika) grayi)、 马 鹿 (Cervus
elaphus)、 麂 未 定 种 (Muntiacus sp.) 及 古 中 华
野 牛 相 似 种 (Bison cf. palaeosinensis)。 其 中
