THURSDAY, AUGUST 25, 2011 FOOTBALL 2011 AMERICAN PRESS 41 KINDER Kinder will have experienced team BY JIM GAZZOLO AMERICAN PRESS Two years ago the Yellow Jackets missed the playoffs by one game. Last year Kinder made the playoffs but lasted District just one game. Now, the 4-2A Jackets hope to stick around the playoffs a little longer. With a total of 17 starting positions with returning players, experience won’t be a problem for a Kinder club that finished second in District 5-2A last year, and during one stretch won five straight games. Kinder will be counting on junior running back/linebacker Marshall Harmon, who finished last season with a flurry. During the season’s last four games, Harmon ran for 669 yards and five touchdowns, including a 212-yard performance in a playoff loss to Donaldsonville. “That is always our goal, to make the playoffs and see how far we can go,” said Kinder coach Jeff Wainwright. “We have a lot of experience we can build on. They got a taste of it last year. That should help us get a fast start.” The Yellow Jackets’ only district loss came to Lake Arthu, 14-12, and it cost them the title. “Our kids remember that,” Wainwright said. “We want to make up for that.” After a slow start — 124 yards in the first 4 games — Harmon, like the rest of his teammates, ended strong. He finished with 1,149 yards and became the starting tailback at midseason. Now Kinder will ride the junior all seaon. He gave us our identity. “We were definitely a different team once we got him going. Quarterback Blake Trahan is back for his senior season.
