SB looking forward to Class 3A<br />

For the past four years, the<br />

South Beauregard Golden<br />

Knights have kept their win<br />

total moving up.<br />

This season, the whole program<br />

is on the move, going up<br />

to Class 3A.<br />

“Reclassification is something<br />

we have been<br />

District expecting for<br />

years,” said head<br />

4-3A coach Shawn<br />

Demeritt. “We<br />

beefed up the JV <strong>schedule</strong> last<br />

year — we added Westlake<br />

and had already been playing<br />

Iowa and DeRidder. We are<br />

looking forward to the challenge.”<br />

The Golden Knights met<br />

just about every challenge<br />

they faced last season, completing<br />

their first undefeated<br />

regular season before falling<br />

to Winnfield in their first<br />

playoff game.<br />

Repeating the feat against<br />

a more difficult <strong>schedule</strong> will<br />

be a tall order. South<br />

Beauregard is 19-1 at home<br />

during the past four seasons,<br />

but the Golden Knights have<br />

six road games this season.<br />

The team has been putting<br />

in extra work to prepare for<br />

the tough slate.<br />

“We have had the best offseason<br />

ever,” Demeritt said.<br />

“We have had more kids in<br />

during the summer than ever.<br />

Some were here every day<br />

and we are in good shape.”<br />

Carrying a heavier workload<br />

this year will be Silas<br />

Whalley, who was an all-district<br />

linebacker last season.<br />

This year he will move to<br />

safety and also be the primary<br />

ball carrier on offense<br />

after seeing spot duty offensively<br />

last season.<br />

Demeritt said Whalley is a<br />

versatile athlete with the ability<br />

to both get upfield and<br />

lead effectively.<br />

“Silas is going to be our<br />

workhorse,” Demeritt said.<br />

“He has good speed, but he’s<br />

also shifty.<br />

“I am not a big juke guy. He<br />
