SOUTH BEAUREGARD
SB looking forward to Class 3A
BY WARREN ARCENEAUX
AMERICAN PRESS
For the past four years, the
South Beauregard Golden
Knights have kept their win
total moving up.
This season, the whole program
is on the move, going up
to Class 3A.
“Reclassification is something
we have been
District expecting for
years,” said head
4-3A coach Shawn
Demeritt. “We
beefed up the JV schedule last
year — we added Westlake
and had already been playing
Iowa and DeRidder. We are
looking forward to the challenge.”
The Golden Knights met
just about every challenge
they faced last season, completing
their first undefeated
regular season before falling
to Winnfield in their first
playoff game.
Repeating the feat against
a more difficult schedule will
be a tall order. South
Beauregard is 19-1 at home
during the past four seasons,
but the Golden Knights have
six road games this season.
The team has been putting
in extra work to prepare for
the tough slate.
“We have had the best offseason
ever,” Demeritt said.
“We have had more kids in
during the summer than ever.
Some were here every day
and we are in good shape.”
Carrying a heavier workload
this year will be Silas
Whalley, who was an all-district
linebacker last season.
This year he will move to
safety and also be the primary
ball carrier on offense
after seeing spot duty offensively
last season.
Demeritt said Whalley is a
versatile athlete with the ability
to both get upfield and
lead effectively.
“Silas is going to be our
workhorse,” Demeritt said.
“He has good speed, but he’s
also shifty.
“I am not a big juke guy. He
