The return of Rogers also
adds more athleticism to the
mix.
“We are excited about having
him back,” Fusilier said.
“He is playing well so far; he’s
one of the better hitters. He
started as a sophomore but
only played three or four
games last year. Ethan Hyatt
will be playing next to him.
He filled in for Rogers last
year, got better, got more comfortable
and will do a great
job this year.”
Hunter Burleson is the sole
returnee on the defensive
line, but Fusilier is still optimistic
about the group.
“I am real pleased with the
progress on the defensive
line,” he said.
“Burleson started toward
the end of last year. He reads
well and is a good tackler.
Garrett Copples a is bit bigger
and has moved inside for
more depth.”

“(Theriot) is the only experienced
one, but the secondary
has been a pleasant surprise
and our most improved
area,” Fusilier said. “Kody
Mudel is back healthy and is
a big help.”
Fusilier said the new-look
District 3-5A has lost no quality.
“I think the district has
improved overall,” he said.

“Acadiana has basically dominated
Class 5A the last five
years. Barbe is Barbe, and
Carencro will be strong.”
The nondistrict schedule
features matchups with powers
Evangel, St. Thomas More
and Dutchtown.
“The only way to get better
is to play good competition,”
Fusilier said. “We are going
to face a lot of great athletes
and find out what our weaknesses
are.”
3-5A: Tight race expected

Carencro and Comeaux
return to the local district
this season. The Bears are
coming off a resurgent season
in which Brent Indest led
the team back to the playoffs
in his first year at the school.
Jordan Walker, Tyler Smith,
Tevin Guillot and Mike
Richard are returning
starters along the offensive
line, while Jalen Nixon
returns at quarterback.
Defensively, just five starters
return.
Comeaux, coached by former
Leesville head coach
Kevin Magee, had just one
win last season. The offense
will have experience with
seven returning starters,
including four along the
offensive line. There will be
youth in the skill positions,
with a new quarterback in
Travis Southard and a pair of
first-time starters in the backfield
in James Guillory and
KENDAL DAIGLE
Sulphur running back
Jhari Mason.
Defensively, the linebacker
corps will be the strength
with returning starters Dylan
Derouen and Jordan
Thibodeaux filling two of the
three slots.
