10 PROJECT MANAGEMENT<br />

10.1 Previous Experience of Lead Partner<br />

<strong>The</strong> city of Regensburg, being located close to the border to Czech Republic and<br />

Austria is since many years involved in European transnational activities and networks.<br />

<strong>The</strong> city has previously participated as lead partner (resp. co-ordinator) and<br />

partner on several EU-funded initiatives and projects.<br />

Some of the main activities are highlighted in the following descriptions:<br />

Regensburg maintains 9 town twinning partnerships to European cities in different<br />

countries (e.g. Pilsen, Aberdeen, Odessa).<br />

Partner in the INTERREG <strong>II</strong>IB CADSES project Hist.Urban »Integrated revitalisation<br />

of historical towns to promote a sustainable urban development« In the<br />

frame of this project 19 partners from 9 Central and East European countries<br />

have come together to support the development of attractive and competitive<br />

small and medium sized historical towns, using the potential of the built-cultural<br />

heritage as a development factor for an integrated, sustainable urban development.<br />

Partner in the INTERREG <strong>II</strong>IB CADSES project DONAUHANSE. Within the scope<br />

of the DONAUHANSE project, German, Austrian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Romanian,<br />

Serbian and Ukrainian cities situated along the Danube co-operate to create<br />

a joint benefit for all participating cities and regions. Aim of the project is to<br />

set up a well-functioning network between the Danube cities which is characterised<br />

by an open, trans-national co-operation culture<br />

INTERREG <strong>II</strong>IA project TECNOREGION–Sharing of Experiences in the Field of<br />

Development of Modern Economic Infrastructure between the cities Pilzen and<br />

Regensburg.<br />

Coordinator of the EU-LIFE Project “Implementation of environmental management<br />

systems in middle sized European cities; Lead partner: City of Regensburg,<br />

partner cities: Karditsa (GRE), Wels (AT).<br />

Partner in the APAS-Project “Energy Concepts for large scale Utilisation of solar<br />

Energy and Biomass in small and medium sized Cities in Europe (European<br />

Commission” , Directorate General XI).<br />

Founding member of the Working Group of Historical Towns (‘ARGE Historische<br />

Städte’),a consortium of the historic cities of Bamberg, Görlitz, Lübeck, Meißen,<br />

Stralsund und Regensburg.<br />

Founding member and initiator of the ‘ARGE Donaustädte’, a cross-border working<br />

group of cities located along the river Danube (Regensburg, Passau, Straubing,<br />

Deggendorf, Linz).<br />

Initiator of the Transnational Initiative ‘RegioPol’, a polycentric transboundary<br />

initiative between the regions East-Bavaria, Upper-Austria and Bohemia (Regensburg<br />

in close co-operation with the cities Linz (AT), Passau (DE), Pilsen<br />

(CZ), Budweis (CZ)).<br />

<strong>The</strong> city of Regensburg is full member of the Organization of World Heritage Cities<br />

(OWHC), which is an international non-profit non-governmental organiza-<br />
