<strong>Lublin</strong> will contribute to the project with its profound experience<br />
with involving the local community.<br />
PP7 Poitiers Poitiers has a highly sophisticated economy and a famous university.<br />
<strong>The</strong> close by science, technology and entertainment park ‘Futuroscope’<br />
atracts 1.5 Mio. visitors/ year. <strong>The</strong>se conditions result<br />
in a low unemployment rate. Despite the economic success, the<br />
maintenance of the cultural heritage and turning it into a stronger<br />
economic asset could be improved.<br />
Concerning “visual integrity” the main chalenges are:<br />
To integrate contemporary architecture without harming the historic,<br />
spatial and townscape characteristics.<br />
Concerning “Integrated revitalisation/ balancing the needs” the<br />
main challenges are:<br />
To promote and provide multimodal, alternative public transport<br />
in the historic centre (mobility);<br />
To improve the accessibility for handicapped and make them<br />
able to experience the cultural heritage;<br />
To develop long-term cooperation between stakeholders and involve<br />
them, in particular property owners, in support of the further<br />
development of the historic urban landscape;<br />
To maintain the level of economic activities in the historic centre;<br />
To keep the historic centre alive;<br />
To prevent the historic centre from gentrifying;<br />
To present the historic urban landscape in a new way to inhabitants<br />
and tourists.<br />
To attract more tourism to the historic centre and prolong their<br />
stay by linking the historic centre with the ‘Futuroscope’ park<br />
and natural attraction of the surrounding;<br />
To better manage the historic urban landscape and its development;<br />
To reduce the CO2 emission of the historic centre e.g. through<br />
improvement of the energy efficiency of historic buildings.<br />
Poitiers will contribute its profound experience within:<br />
Lighting concepts to present historic monuments in a new way;<br />
Improving accessibility and the experience of the historic urban<br />
landscape for handicapped people (also blind ones);<br />
Providing social housing to secure social mixture in the historic<br />
centre;<br />
Involving the local community;<br />
Funding program for private owners to rehabilitate their buildings,<br />
preserving the cultural value.<br />
PP8 Valencia In Valencia historic neighbourhoods suffered for years serious degradation,<br />
resulting in the decline of its resident population. Within<br />
the historic centre the situation could be improved considerably<br />
(80-90% is rehabilitated), but other historic neighbourhoods outside<br />
the historic centre are still in need of an adequate revitalisa-<br />
