Regensburg Regensburg historic centre is in very good conditions. <strong>The</strong> major<br />
task is the management to maintain its cultural heritage values and<br />
balance the development and preservation needs.<br />
Concerning “visual integrity” themain challenges are:<br />
Proper integration of new architecture/ developments;<br />
Raising the awareness by relevant stakeholders;<br />
Management Plans for historic urban landscapes.<br />
Concerning “Integrated revitalisation/ balancing the needs” the<br />
main challenges are:<br />
Improving (alternative) mobility and accessibility<br />
Securing multi-functionality/ balancing the different needs<br />
Supporting and attracting (local) economy/ balancing traditional<br />
and chain stores<br />
Securing the housing function/ social mixture<br />
Improving public and green space/ recreational facilities<br />
Attracting tourism/ dealing with the impacts of tourism<br />
Presenting the historic urban landscape to tourists and inhabitants<br />

Regensburg will contribute its profound knowledge in policies and<br />
management strategies to safeguard the cultural heritage values<br />
and the sustainable development of the historic urban landscape.<br />
PP1 Graz In Graz exists the conflict between preservation and socioeconomic<br />
development. On the one hand the historic Old Town has<br />
to be preserved; on the other hand the interests of the economy<br />
have to be respected in order to achieve a vital Old Town. <strong>The</strong><br />
challenge for the city is to preserve the historic ensemble, keeping<br />
its unique identity, according to the legal framework, but also to<br />
enable certain flexibility for the socio-economic development to<br />
keep public life and city functions in the city centre.<br />
Concerning “Integrated revitalisation/ balancing the needs” the<br />
main challenges are:<br />
To improve the accessibility and mobility for the inhabitants in<br />
the historic centre (often no parking space close to the build-<br />
