REGISTRATION NUMBERS ON
SAFETY DATA SHEETS
According to the legal text of REACH,
the registration numbers of substances
should feature on the Safety Data Sheet.
This is more or less OK for substances,
but it is not such a good idea for prepa -
rations. The numbers would enable the
reader of the SDS to identify which substances
were used to produce the prepa -
ration and, perhaps more importantly,
also the identity of the original supplier
of these ingredients. This is considered
proprietary information. Also it might
make the SDS very complex. What if an
ink contains 30 substances and for half of
them the ink maker has three different
suppliers. Must he change the SDS with
every batch change of his raw materials
Severe discussions are going between
industry, the Commission and representatives
of the Competent Authorities of
the Member States. Industry now proposes
to list the numbers, but leave out the
last four digits. It would keep that information
available for the authorities. This
would identify the substance, but not the
supplier. The opinion of the Commission
Legal Services is probably to be asked.
The outcome can easily be predicted.

B. LAUFENBERG GMBH - GERMANY
Laufenberg purchases the Release
Paper Business from Huhtamaki
B. Laufenberg GmbH and Huhtamaki
Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG have
signed an agreement about the purchase
of the release paper business of Huhta maki
by Laufenberg. The transaction will take
place on the basis of an asset deal.
The assets will be transferred in the course
of a transition process of several months.
Laufenberg starts up the upgraded
coating line
B. Laufenberg GmbH has rebuilt one of
their coating lines completely to a new
coating line. The start up was in February
2009. The machine is constructed for the
silicone coating of paper and films one
side at widths up to 2200 mm with a maximum
speed of 650 m/min. The capacitiy
has been increased by this investment by
more than 100 mio sqm per year.
COLLANO ADHESIVES -
SWITZERLAND
Open House at Collano
Within the scope of the conference
program of the VskE, the Swiss adhesive
manufacturer Collano organized an open
house event in Sempach-Station.
On April 22 and 23, forty interested participants
took the opportunity to visit
the new pilot coater. They observed the
coating process live, with a UV-curable
hot melt on a polyester film. The hightech
Nordson pilot coater is equipped
with a slot die, a curtain coater and a
spray head. It can coat conventional and

Evonik Goldschmidt introduces
Colored TEGO® RC Silicones
Evonik Goldschmidt has developed tinted
variations of their free-radical curing
TEGO® RC series. They make a release
coating with a translucent color, which
can be mixed individually out of the
basic colors Magenta (red), Cyan (blue)
and Yellow.
There are many possible applications for
this new feature. The color can be used
to simply distinguish siliconized from
non-siliconized material at first glance.
One step further, different colors may
be used to mark different release levels.
The color in the silicone could even be
