San Diego Woodturners Page 22 March 2013 HOLLOW-PRO Calipers A. B. C. These Hollow-Pro Calipers provide accurate measurements in crucial areas of hollow vessels and open bowls. A. Top wall—inside opening B. Lower side wall C. Bottom thickness—This is the important measurement to enable you to re-chuck the bottom and KNOW how much wood you have to work with. This works equally well on open bowls! Hollow-Pro Calipers are precision made from steel and aluminum for maximum strength while maintaining a comfortable light weight. The Small size will work for hollow forms up to about 8" in diameter and up to 6 1/4" deep. The Larger size works for hollow forms up to about 18" in diameter and up to 11 3/4" deep. San Diego Woodturners Page 23 March 2013 Empty Bowls Each year potters, glass blowers and woodturners donate bowls to be part of a wonderful fundraiser to feed the hungry. We are all fortunate to have enough to eat every day and we sometimes forget that there are people in our own city who go hungry. TACO (Third Avenue Charitable Organization) is a local organization running the San Diego version of the national Empty Bowl initiative. At the event (in the spring) supporters pay $20 for a bowl of their choice and some soup. The soup is donated by a number of really great restaurants. (The bowls don’t have to be used to eat the soup). In 2012, 600 people attended and many bought more than one bowl. The event raised over $15,000 to help feed those in need. I would like to collect bowls all year so that we have a nice selection to donate. Please bring your donations to any meeting and I will keep them safe until it is time to pass them on for the event. Thanks for your generosity. Sally Ault NEWS FROM THE DVD LIBRARY Please return your DVD’s so other members can check them out and enjoy them as much as you did. Look for Mike Hosaluk’s DVD in the next couple months along with Jimmy Clewes Turn It Up. Please remember as a member of the club you can check out 3 DVDs each month. Return them at the next meeting and owe nothing, it’s a club perk! But….. if they are not returned the charge is $5.00 per month per DVD. If you have any questions or comments please let us know. If you have suggestions on other DVDs for the library we’d like to hear that too. Thank you for your support! How to clean your DVD Use a soft cloth ~ lint free ~(an old clean T-shirt works great) Put a little water on the cloth Wipe the disc from the center to the outside edge ~ DO NOT WIPE IN A CIRCULAR MOTION! If the water does not solve the problem put some Isopropyl (rubbing) Alcohol on the cloth and wipe from the center to the outside edge. Again, do not wipe in a circular motion. BOLT ACTION PEN KITS Tom and Becky are going to order bolt action pens . If more than 50 are ordered we will get a brake on the price. We have 20 spoken for already.
