Forensic Medicine<br />

The British Association in Forensic Medicine (BAFM) offers<br />

an annual prize of £250 to medical students from the<br />

United Kingdom for what is judged to be the best project on<br />

any aspect of forensic pathology carried out during an<br />

elective period or short study module.<br />

Edward Boyle Memorial<br />

Trust / Commonwealth<br />

Bursaries<br />

Edward Boyle Bursaries have a maximum value of £500;<br />

they are offered with tenure at any time between 1 May<br />

<strong>2012</strong> and 31 May 2013. Their purpose is to enable medical<br />

students in Britain to gain, during their elective period,<br />

practical experience in developing Commonwealth<br />

countries (particularly those that are Least Developed or<br />

Specially Disadvantaged) and, by doing so, to help<br />

understaffed hospitals in those countries. The Bursaries are<br />

intended to cover part of the student's travel, subsistence<br />

and local costs, and payment will be made directly to the<br />

students selected.<br />

Joseph Taylor Scholarship<br />

CBM UK is proud to offer the Joseph Taylor Scholarship to<br />

Christian medical students of ophthalmology attending UK<br />

centres of learning.<br />

There are up to four scholarships of £500 available each<br />

years. Their elective should be in an African church and/or<br />

Six bursaries of £300 are awarded each year by<br />

competition. To aid medical students from Britain and<br />

France to spend elective attachments in establishments<br />

speaking each other’s languages and to build a database of<br />

information about such attachments as a resource for<br />

future students.<br />

During the elective abroad the students should execute a<br />

research protocol related to Obstetric Anaesthesia. They<br />

should be supported by an Anaesthetist who is member of<br />

the OAA.<br />

This bursary was established by a bequest from Dr Oscar<br />

Reginald Lewis Wilson OBE LRCP to support the education<br />

of medical students. Awards are made annually to students<br />

wishing to spend their elective period abroad. An additional<br />

prize worth £100 is awarded to the student who submits<br />

the best report on the elective period.<br />

In January each year, the Academic Registrar invites Deans<br />

of medical schools to nominate one student per school to<br />

be put forward for a scholarship.<br />

enrolled in a UK medical school and have submitted an<br />

abstract outlining the planned elective and its relevance to<br />

conflict and catastrophe medicine. The winner will be<br />

expected to make a short presentation to the Faculty after<br />

they have completed their elective.<br />
