Eight scholarships of not more than £750 each are available

British Association in 

Forensic Medicine 

The British Association in Forensic Medicine (BAFM) offers 

an annual prize of £250 to medical students from the 

United Kingdom for what is judged to be the best project on 

any aspect of forensic pathology carried out during an 

elective period or short study module.

The Association usually offers twenty student bursaries 

annually. The grants are each for the sum of £500.00 

towards the expenses of a medical student who wishes to

British Geriatrics Society, Grants, Medical Students' Elective

The British Society for 

Surgery of the Hand 

BSSH offers two annual bursaries of £750 to support 

medical student elective attachments in Hand Surgery. An 

application form can be obtained from the Secretariat. The 

attachment should be completed within 18 months of the 

award. The Society expects to receive a short report of the 

attachment within two months of its completion.

Clegg Scholars per year.

Edward Boyle Memorial 

Trust / Commonwealth 

Bursaries 

Edward Boyle Bursaries have a maximum value of £500; 

they are offered with tenure at any time between 1 May 

2012 and 31 May 2013. Their purpose is to enable medical 

students in Britain to gain, during their elective period, 

practical experience in developing Commonwealth 

countries (particularly those that are Least Developed or 

Specially Disadvantaged) and, by doing so, to help 

understaffed hospitals in those countries. The Bursaries are 

intended to cover part of the student's travel, subsistence 

and local costs, and payment will be made directly to the 

students selected.

Joseph Taylor Scholarship 

CBM UK is proud to offer the Joseph Taylor Scholarship to 

Christian medical students of ophthalmology attending UK 

centres of learning. 

There are up to four scholarships of £500 available each 

year for successful applicants who should be in their clinical 

years. Their elective should be in an African church and/or 

mission hospital for a period of at least six weeks and 

should include some time studying eye diseases.

The Miss Ford Bursaries

Six bursaries of £300 are awarded each year by 

competition. To aid medical students from Britain and 

France to spend elective attachments in establishments 

speaking each other’s languages and to build a database of 

information about such attachments as a resource for 

future students. 

During the elective abroad the students should execute a 

research protocol related to Obstetric Anaesthesia. They 

should be supported by an Anaesthetist who is member of 

the OAA. 

This bursary was established by a bequest from Dr Oscar 

Reginald Lewis Wilson OBE LRCP to support the education 

of medical students. Awards are made annually to students 

wishing to spend their elective period abroad. An additional 

prize worth £100 is awarded to the student who submits 

the best report on the elective period. 

In January each year, the Academic Registrar invites Deans 

of medical schools to nominate one student per school to 

be put forward for a scholarship.

Pathological Society 

The Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland is 

offering a number of bursaries to undergraduate students 

of medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry or biomedical 

science to enable them to work for elective or vacation
