MESSAGE FROM
DEAN
Dear Students,
Greetings and welcome to the College of Dentistry, Gulf
Medical University!
The College of Dentistry believes that we need to educate
a dentist who is fundamentally different in professional
capabilities from his/her predecessors. We believe this
because the world is changing rapidly. We provide
education to dental students to prepare them to practice
dentistry in the 21st century with knowledge and
understanding of many different patient populations,
dental specialties in varied practice settings. GMU
dentists today are more culturally diverse than ever
before. And, we hope that the dentists will redress the
disparities in oral healthcare access that exist in UAE
and across the world.
The College presents a dynamic curriculum, which
provides excellent clinical training, integrates the health
sciences with clinical experience, and utilizes modern
technology. Our success is based on maintaining a strong
faculty and staff, supported in their commitment to
teaching and administration, professional development,
scholarship, research, student and community service.
Since its beginning College of Dentistry has played
an integral part in the development of oral health care
services and dental education. This college has an
outstanding reputation for its clinical teaching programs
and for its research and service programs that have
impacted oral and general health locally, nationally and
internationally. I am very proud to have recently become
a member of the GMU family.
We are situated at the heart of the new Ajman
metropolitan area and have the benefit of a large pool of
patients who seek care at our clinics. Additional training
in patient care will be gained during assignments at
affiliated hospitals and at dental centers in various
locations throughout the country.
We are committed to excellence in
all that we strive to accomplish.
SUMMER TRAINING
PROGRAM
The Summer Training Program (STP) which is a special
feature of our University, is a unique concept introduced
by the University to enable students to get international
exposure and experience in clinical settings. Every year
the University sends students to participate in STP,
which helps students understand the methodologies
in healthcare and research and expose them to various
nuances of medical advances, which helps in carving
out their own future. Training is conducted in leading
hospitals in several countries, including USA, UK,
Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, Sweden, Switzerland,
India, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain,
Qatar and Jordan.
It is of paramount importance that students must be
exposed to some of the common as well as rare clinical
conditions in different countries so that they get a wider
clinical exposure.
