Note 1: The Fur<strong>the</strong>r Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) <strong>the</strong> Higher Education and Training Awards<br />
Council (HETAC) and <strong>the</strong> National Qualifications Authority <strong>of</strong> Ireland (NQAI) are to merged to form a new body<br />
to be known as <strong>the</strong> Qualifications and Quality Assurance Authority <strong>of</strong> Ireland (QQAAI) in <strong>the</strong> coming months.<br />
Note 2: The Chairperson <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RIRB is due to retire with effect from 15th February and will be paid an annual<br />
salary for a former President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Circuit Court subject to abatement to take account <strong>of</strong> his pension. The o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
board members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RIRB are paid a per diem rate and <strong>the</strong> per diem rate from 1st January 2011 is €668 per day.<br />
Note 3: The Chairperson <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RIRC is paid an annual salary for a Supreme Court judge subject to abatement to<br />
take account <strong>of</strong> his pension. Since October 2011 <strong>the</strong> Chairperson has taken a 50% voluntary reduction in salary.<br />
The o<strong>the</strong>r board members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RIRB are paid a per diem rate and pension abatement applies in <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong><br />
members receiving a pension from <strong>the</strong> State. The per diem rate from 1st January 2011 is €668 per day.<br />
European Globalisation Fund<br />
216. Deputy Pearse Doherty asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Education and Skills if he will confirm<br />
whe<strong>the</strong>r an application has been made to <strong>the</strong> European Globalisation Fund for workers made<br />
redundant in TalkTalk in 2011; if so, when <strong>the</strong> application was made; <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> workers<br />
named in <strong>the</strong> application; <strong>the</strong> total funding being sought from <strong>the</strong> EGF for this application;<br />
and if he will make a statement on <strong>the</strong> matter. [7838/12]<br />
Minister <strong>of</strong> State at <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Education and Skills (Deputy Ciarán Cannon):<br />
Officials in <strong>the</strong> Department are currently finalising an application for EGF co-financing <strong>of</strong><br />
certain measures in support <strong>of</strong> almost 600 redundant workers at <strong>the</strong> TalkTalk company in<br />
Waterford and a number <strong>of</strong> ancillary enterprises.<br />
The application has involved considerable consultation to date with representatives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
redundant TalkTalk workers and <strong>the</strong> relevant service providers at local, regional and national<br />
levels and including a grouping chaired by <strong>the</strong> Waterford City manager. Both I and my <strong>of</strong>ficials<br />
