Departmental Staff<br />

760. Deputy Ca<strong>the</strong>rine Murphy asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if any<br />

remuneration, stipend, expense facility, financial facility or similar payment is being made from<br />

<strong>the</strong> Exchequer to any senior public servant who has retired from his Department beyond any<br />

accrued pension entitlements; if any such payment has been sanctioned for current senior public<br />

servants who are about to retire from his Department; if he will list <strong>the</strong> name, positions and<br />

details <strong>of</strong> any relevant moneys paid or scheduled to be paid <strong>of</strong> any person in receipt <strong>of</strong> or<br />

sanctioned to receive such a payment; and if he will make a statement on <strong>the</strong> matter. [8279/12]<br />

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport (Deputy Leo Varadkar): Five retired civil servants<br />

from my Department who were rehired during 2011 are still working in <strong>the</strong> Department. Four<br />

are Radio Officer grade III and one is an Aeronautical Officer Grade 1. They are working on<br />

an ad hoc basis and are paid according to <strong>the</strong> salary scale applicable to <strong>the</strong> grade <strong>the</strong>y retired<br />

on subject to <strong>the</strong> standard abatement rules (i.e. <strong>the</strong> pension is reduced so that when added to<br />

<strong>the</strong> remuneration <strong>of</strong> any new position to which a pensioner is appointed, <strong>the</strong> sum is no greater<br />

than <strong>the</strong> remuneration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> position from which <strong>the</strong> pensioner retired). These staff are<br />

required for essential front-line functions until such time as replacements can be appointed.<br />

With regard to current senior staff who are about to retire from my Department, no remuneration,<br />

stipends, expense facility, financial facilities or similar payments have been sanctioned<br />

or are scheduled to be made beyond <strong>the</strong>ir accrued pension entitlements.<br />

Architectural Heritage<br />

761. Deputy Brendan Griffin asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if grants<br />

are available for <strong>the</strong> renovation <strong>of</strong> listed buildings such as old hotels and guest houses in County<br />

Kerry; and if he will make a statement on <strong>the</strong> matter. [8402/12]<br />

operational matter for Fáilte Ireland. I have referred <strong>the</strong> Deputy’s question to Fáilte Ireland<br />

for direct reply. Please advise my private <strong>of</strong>fice if you do not receive a reply within ten working<br />

Road Network<br />

762. Deputy Charlie McConalogue asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport <strong>the</strong><br />

details <strong>of</strong> road projects in <strong>the</strong> country, if any, granted funding by him under <strong>the</strong> specific<br />

improvement road grants programme for 2012 to a value <strong>of</strong> less than €250,000 and <strong>the</strong> reason<br />

for <strong>the</strong> funding <strong>of</strong> any project granted funding below this threshold; and if he will make a<br />

statement on <strong>the</strong> matter. [8403/12]<br />

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport (Deputy Leo Varadkar): I take it that <strong>the</strong> Deputy<br />

is asking about grant assistance from my Department for Regional and Local Roads across <strong>the</strong><br />

Country. Details <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> funding provided to each Local Authority are available in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Oireachtas</strong> Library. Allocations <strong>of</strong> less than €250,000 can be made in <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong> forestry roads,<br />

some urban schemes, completion payments, advance design or land acquisition toge<strong>the</strong>r with<br />

bridge rehabilitation and improvement works.<br />

763. Deputy Sean Fleming asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will<br />

outline on a yearly basis from 2008 to 2015 in respect <strong>of</strong> staff leaving <strong>the</strong> public service in his<br />

Department; <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> lump sums; <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> severance payments; <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> pensions <strong>of</strong><br />
