Questions— 14 February 2012. <strong>Written</strong> <strong>Answers</strong><br />
• 280 failed asylum seekers and o<strong>the</strong>r illegal migrants deported from <strong>the</strong> State in 2011,<br />
all <strong>of</strong> whom had entered <strong>the</strong> State art one point or ano<strong>the</strong>r,<br />
• 144 asylum seekers transferred to <strong>the</strong> EU member state in which <strong>the</strong>y first applied for<br />
asylum under <strong>the</strong> Dublin Regulation,<br />
• 41 EU nationals were returned to <strong>the</strong>ir countries <strong>of</strong> origin on foot <strong>of</strong> an EU<br />
Removal Order.<br />
The removal <strong>of</strong> illegal immigrants from <strong>the</strong> State is a necessary feature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enforcement <strong>of</strong><br />
immigration legislation with <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> upholding <strong>the</strong> integrity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> immigration system.<br />
In enforcing <strong>the</strong> law in this respect, Ireland is no different from o<strong>the</strong>r countries who also<br />
remove individuals who have no lawful right to remain within <strong>the</strong>ir territory.<br />
Road Safety<br />
525. Deputy Finian McGrath asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Justice and Equality if <strong>the</strong> Garda Síochána<br />
will act on a traffic safety matter at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 9 as a matter <strong>of</strong><br />
urgency. [8174/12]<br />
Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Alan Shatter): I am informed by <strong>the</strong> Garda authorities<br />
that <strong>the</strong> area referred to is within <strong>the</strong> Clontarf Garda Sub-District. Local Garda management<br />
is aware <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> difficulties being experienced at this location due to car access, parking and<br />
egress to three educational establishments, in particular at peak drop <strong>of</strong>f and collection times.<br />
The area is <strong>the</strong> subject <strong>of</strong> patrols, particularly during peak traffic periods, by <strong>the</strong> Community<br />
Garda and o<strong>the</strong>r Sub-District and District personnel, including Divisional Traffic Corps personnel.<br />
Fixed charge penalty notices are regularly issued for <strong>of</strong>fences contrary to <strong>the</strong> Road Traffic<br />
Acts detected in <strong>the</strong> locality.<br />
I am fur<strong>the</strong>r informed that <strong>the</strong> local Community Policing Unit has been directed to monitor<br />
and address <strong>the</strong> issues referred to by <strong>the</strong> Deputy. I understand that <strong>the</strong> local Community Garda<br />
specifically allocated to <strong>the</strong> area is liaising with <strong>the</strong> management teams at <strong>the</strong> respective schools<br />
in order that appropriate measures be put in place to regulate parking, particularly at identified<br />
peak-times. A leaflet is also being distributed by <strong>the</strong> Community Policing Unit for parents /<br />
guardians, through <strong>the</strong> schools. Residents are being advised to report incidents to <strong>the</strong> local<br />
Community Garda should <strong>the</strong>se difficulties continue and local Garda management will continue<br />
to monitor <strong>the</strong> situation.<br />
Garda Deployment<br />
526. Deputy Seán Kenny asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Justice and Equality <strong>the</strong> amount received<br />
by An Garda Síochána from Croke Park, <strong>the</strong> RDS, <strong>the</strong> O2, <strong>the</strong> FAI, <strong>the</strong> IRFU <strong>the</strong> GAA and<br />
so on towards covering <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> policing events in <strong>the</strong> years 2007 to 2011, inclusive; and if<br />
he will make a statement on <strong>the</strong> matter. [8214/12]<br />
