511. Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Justice and Equality if <strong>the</strong> ministerial<br />

council on migrant integration is still operable; <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> meetings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> council held in<br />

<strong>the</strong> past year; <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se meetings; if no meetings were held in 2011 <strong>the</strong> reason for this;<br />

his view on <strong>the</strong> council; and if he will make a statement on <strong>the</strong> matter. [7831/12]<br />

Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Alan Shatter): The position is that no meetings <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Ministerial Council on Integration were held in 2011 as <strong>the</strong> future <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council is under<br />

consideration and I will make a decision on <strong>the</strong> matter shortly.<br />

Refugee Status<br />

512. Deputy Noel Harrington asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Justice and Equality <strong>the</strong> position regarding<br />

an application for refugee status in respect <strong>of</strong> a person (details supplied); when he expects<br />

to be able to make a decision on <strong>the</strong> matter; and if he will make a statement on <strong>the</strong> matter.<br />

Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Alan Shatter): Applications for refugee status in<br />

<strong>the</strong> State are determined by an independent process comprising <strong>the</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Refugee<br />

Applications Commissioner (ORAC) and <strong>the</strong> Refugee Appeals Tribunal (RAT) which make<br />

recommendations to me on whe<strong>the</strong>r such status should be granted. If an application for refugee<br />

status has been made by <strong>the</strong> person concerned <strong>the</strong> Deputy will be aware that it is not <strong>the</strong><br />

practice to comment on asylum applications that are pending.<br />

Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Alan Shatter): Arising from <strong>the</strong> refusal <strong>of</strong> his<br />

asylum application, and in accordance with <strong>the</strong> provisions <strong>of</strong> Section 3 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Immigration Act<br />

1999 (as amended), <strong>the</strong> person concerned was notified, by letter dated 14th May, 2010, that<br />
