Questions— 14 February 2012. <strong>Written</strong> <strong>Answers</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> probation and welfare service will publish its research on <strong>the</strong> recidivism rates <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fenders<br />

under <strong>the</strong>ir management. [7772/12]<br />

Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Alan Shatter): The Probation Service is in <strong>the</strong><br />

process <strong>of</strong> conducting initial research in order to measure <strong>the</strong> recidivism rates <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fenders<br />

under <strong>the</strong>ir management. Preliminary findings from <strong>the</strong> work done to-date indicate that <strong>the</strong><br />

percentage <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fenders who did not commit an <strong>of</strong>fence in <strong>the</strong> 12 and 24 month periods after<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir initial conviction is high. However, as I have said before, this is a complex area <strong>of</strong> study<br />

and this research needs to be validated fur<strong>the</strong>r before exact figures and findings can be<br />

published.<br />

Garda Training<br />

505. Deputy Jonathan O’Brien asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Justice and Equality, fur<strong>the</strong>r to<br />

<strong>Parliamentary</strong> Question No. 44 <strong>of</strong> 1 December 2011, if he has received <strong>the</strong> requested information<br />

from <strong>the</strong> Garda Commissioner that is <strong>the</strong> recommendations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> An Garda Síochána<br />

training and development review group report that have been implemented and those which<br />

are outstanding; <strong>the</strong> date on which he expects all <strong>the</strong> recommendations to have been<br />

implemented; and <strong>the</strong> date when this information will be received. [7773/12]<br />

Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Alan Shatter): In <strong>the</strong> reply to <strong>Parliamentary</strong> Question<br />

No. 44 <strong>of</strong> 1 December 2011, I undertook to write directly to <strong>the</strong> Deputy who put down <strong>the</strong><br />

original question. The information sought was provided by letter to <strong>the</strong> Deputy’s <strong>Parliamentary</strong><br />

colleague on <strong>the</strong> 13 January 2012.<br />

<strong>Parliamentary</strong> Question No. 186 <strong>of</strong> 14 December 2011, if he will supply <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r information<br />

regarding expenses received by certain employees within his Department; and if he will make<br />
