welfare entitlements.<br />

Departmental Staff<br />

362. Deputy Sean Fleming asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Social Protection if she will outline on a<br />

yearly basis form 2008 to 2015 in respect <strong>of</strong> staff leaving <strong>the</strong> public service in her Department;<br />

<strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> lump sums; <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> severance payments; <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> pensions <strong>of</strong> those leaving<br />

<strong>the</strong> service through retirement or o<strong>the</strong>r means; <strong>the</strong> loss <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pension levy from employees<br />

who have left; <strong>the</strong> loss <strong>of</strong> superannuation payments from retired or departed employees, in<br />

tabular form; and if she will make a statement on <strong>the</strong> matter. [8442/12]<br />

Minister for Social Protection (Deputy Joan Burton): The table shows <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> staff<br />

who retired from my Department from 2008 to date (10 February); <strong>the</strong> amount paid to those<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficers in lump sums; and <strong>the</strong> annual estimated gross pension costs per annum associated with<br />

those retired staff members which does not include <strong>the</strong> Public Service Pension Reduction.<br />

Details <strong>of</strong> future retirements up to 2015, apart from those in respect <strong>of</strong> staff members who may<br />

reach maximum retirement age in that period, are not readily available and due to <strong>the</strong> pressure<br />

<strong>of</strong> work in <strong>the</strong> HR pensions area at present I am not in a position to provide <strong>the</strong>se details. I<br />

can, however, inform <strong>the</strong> Deputy that a fur<strong>the</strong>r 202 staff members have applied to retire before<br />

29 February 2012 and <strong>the</strong>ir applications are currently being processed.<br />

During <strong>the</strong> period from 2008 no severance payments were made to staff retiring from my<br />

Department. Figures in relation to <strong>the</strong> loss <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pension levy from employees who have<br />

retired from my Department and <strong>the</strong> loss <strong>of</strong> superannuation payments from retired staff <strong>of</strong> my<br />

Department are not available:<br />

Redundancy Payments<br />

363. Deputy Michael Moynihan asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Social Protection <strong>the</strong> position regarding<br />

a redundancy payment application in respect <strong>of</strong> a person (details supplied) in County<br />

Clare. [8446/12]<br />

Minister for Social Protection (Deputy Joan Burton): A redundancy lump sum claim in<br />

respect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> person concerned was awarded on 6 February 2012 and a cheque payment issued<br />

directly to <strong>the</strong> person concerned.<br />

Social Welfare Code<br />

364. Deputy Willie Penrose asked <strong>the</strong> Minister for Social Protection if she will indicate <strong>the</strong><br />

entitlements available to a person who is compelled due to ill health as certified by medical<br />

consultants and who has been in self employment for <strong>the</strong> past 35 years or so; and if she will<br />

make a statement on <strong>the</strong> matter. [8467/12]<br />
