processed into your auction file. This allows the St. 

Benedict bank to process your purchases in a timely 

manner. A final copy of your itemized receipt will be 

mailed to your home.

Inspired by the artwork of Theodore Geisel a.k.a. ''Dr. Seuss'', each kindergartner depicted

With instruction from Mrs. Bellia on the details that often make up the exterior of a house, 

our first graders drew their houses and painted them with watercolors. This framed piece of 

artwork includes their whimsical collection of homes as well as sepia-‐toned images of the 

artists themselves.

whimsical collection created by the second grade class showcases their self-‐portrait

grade point of view. This item is a must for any art book collector or poetry lover!

tiramisu. Layers of spongy, golden cake along with espresso, marsala wine, mascarpone 

cheese*, cream, and chocolate all combine to evoke the feeling that you just might be sitting in 

an Italian café, far away from the demands of kids, work, laundry, and after-‐school

The St. Benedict 3rd grade class have come home to roost as a colorful flock of birds. Each 

child's artistic talent has brought their Northwest Bird to life as they perch together in the 

branches of a sprawling tree, alive with green leaves and set on a gold background.

18 "Peace Poems" – Fourth Grade Art Project 

In keeping with their studies of both poetry and peace, the fourth graders were each given a 

part of a dove to write a peace poem on. This graphic text was reassembled into a dove and 

framed on an attractive background.

Four students will pick two of their favorite teachers, from the list below, to join them at a 

Mariner day-‐game (date to be determined). First to lunch at Dick's or Subway. They'll do this in

21 "Pearl, Lisi, and Friends"

Library Journal's ''Librarian of the Year,'' and St. Benedict School’s own literary queen, Ms. 

Susan Lisi. Yes, you and three of your luckiest friends will dine with NPR commentator and 

renowned book maven Nancy Pearl if you are the lucky winner of this unique and completely 

fun package. Pearl, whose ''Book Lust'' books have introduced readers to her favorite books, 

retired in 2004 as executive director of the Seattle Public Library's Washington Center for the 

Book, but has continued to write her books and appear on public radio. The New York Times 

calls her ''the talk of librarian circles.'' Readers can't get enough of her recommendations while 

bookstores and libraries offer standing room only whenever she visits. Since the release of the

Fund-A-Dream 

Completing the Second Floor Renovation Project 

Imagine: a monotonous library, its materials outdated, its setup poorly thought out, its space used 

inefficiently. Then, a renovation. This innovative library now beckons you with glowing shelf after 

glowing shelf of pristine books. Not only that, but the creative use of space allows for further learning 

to occur.” 

Last May, student Sarah Tocher wrote these words for a seventh grade essay assignment, in anticipation 

of the library renovation. In September, her vision expressed months before came true: 

“This major overhaul is a necessary part of improving our school by providing a dynamic place 

for students to learn and have fun while they’re at it. The completed library will help our 

school to stay at the forefront of innovation and will become a hub of educational 

accomplishments. This is a gift to everyone associated with our school and will continue to be 

for years to come. “ 

Building upon the unprecedented generosity of 2011’s Fund-‐A-‐Dream campaign, this year’s Fund-‐A-‐ 

Dream is devoted to the completion of the St. Benedict Library renovation. 

Throughout the school year, our children and their teachers have enjoyed the inviting new library space 

and state-‐of-‐the-‐art Flex Room. It serves as an educational hub for the school, provides more flexible and 

collaborative instructional space, and enhances technology instruction for all students. 

The second phase of the project expands the library to create an inspiring and comfortable reading and 

learning area for students. It also supports the creation of a new staff room to support the important 

work that they do with our children. 

In terms of funding and building, we are more than halfway there—but the project can’t be completed 

without your help in tonight’s Fund-‐A-‐Dream campaign! Join the donors who have already committed to

28 Young Student Role in “Once Upon a Mattress” 

Support the dreams of your young actor as they play the added role of the Wizard’s Apprentice 

in Saint Benedict School’s production of “Once Upon a Mattress”. This role can be played by 

either a boy or girl in the second through fourth grade. The young actor will share the spotlight 

as they sing, dance, and shine in the magic of this musical. Rehearsals are scheduled Mondays, 

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00-‐9:00 p.m. Parents should coordinate with Mr. Dunlop after 

the auction to receive a script and determine the rehearsal schedule. Performances are April
