Based on estimates, the accounting figures of<br />

Orkla’s beverage activities have been adapted to<br />

<strong>Carlsberg</strong>’s accounting policies.<br />

Feldschlösschen Getränke Holding AG is included<br />

in the operations with one month <strong>and</strong> fully<br />

included in the balance sheet figures.<br />

The establishment of a joint venture with Asian<br />

Chang Beverage Company regarding the activities<br />

in Asia <strong>and</strong> the Coca-Cola activities in Denmark<br />

<strong>and</strong> Finl<strong>and</strong> are not included in the pro forma figures.<br />

Possible synergy effects or other management<br />

initiatives as a consequence of the establishment<br />

of <strong>Carlsberg</strong> Breweries A/S are not included in the<br />

stated pro forma figures.<br />

The pro forma statement shows an operating<br />

profit of DKK 2,325 million <strong>and</strong> a balance sheet<br />

total of DKK 32.4 billion.<br />

Research<br />

The research <strong>and</strong> development activities of the<br />

<strong>Carlsberg</strong> Research Center, including the <strong>Carlsberg</strong><br />

Laboratory, continued in <strong>1999</strong>/00. Total<br />

expenses, amounting to approx. DKK 70 million<br />

after deduction of external grants (12 months), are<br />

charged to the profit <strong>and</strong> loss account. A new,<br />

independent company, Combio A/S, has been<br />

established based on patented inventions developed<br />

at the <strong>Carlsberg</strong> Laboratory. In November<br />

<strong>2000</strong>, Combio received contributions totalling<br />

DKK 60 million from external investors.<br />

In the past year, 150 full-time employees <strong>and</strong><br />

25 visiting researchers have worked at the Research<br />

Center.<br />

During the year, the <strong>Carlsberg</strong> Laboratory published<br />

75 scientific articles in international journals<br />

with peer review. In addition, the Laboratory play-<br />
