Letter To The Editor
Dear Editor
On behalf of the
Canadian Cancer Society
Residential Campaign 2003
I would like to extend a
thank you to the people of
the Kamloops area for their
contributions to this year’s
April campaign. Once again,
you have shown that you are
generous and caring individuals.
Thank you to the wonderful,
hardworking and dedicated
volunteers for their
commitment and especially
the Zone Captains and
Canvassers, who spent many
hours canvassing to raise
funds for this very worthwhile
cause. The donations
are used to fund cancer
research and offer prevention,
education and support
programs.
Thank you to the local
Media for their tremendous
support in publishing our
campaign and to the many
local businesses for their
donations to our Volunteer
Appreciation Night.
Once again thank you for
your support.º
Sincerely
McArthur Park
Lawn Bowling
Club
We have had an exciting
start to our bowling year
with visits to other Interior
lawn bowling clubs and their
visit to our 2003 opening
day on May 31. Sixty hardy
bowlers from Vernon,
Merritt, Kelowna and
Riverside had a great day of
games in rain and shine.
This annual highlight was
followed by a provincial first
– the B.C. Blind Bowlers
tournament was held June 8
at McArthur Park Club.
Visiting bowlers, markers
and directors (for the blind
bowlers) came from
Nanaimo, Kelowna, Calgary
and Salmon Arm. Our local
bowlers did well in the competition.
We learned we have
the largest blind bowlers
club in B.C.
McArthur bowlers play
Monday, Wednesday, Friday
and Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Blind bowlers play Thursday
at 6:30 p.m. Smooth-soled
shoes are a must. Call 376-
0917 for more information
or to arrange free instruction.
We have an opportunity
to raise some more
funds for our Zone. Each
year the local adult soccer
groups hold a huge
Kamloops Invitational Soccer
Tournament during the
British Columbia Day
week-end in August. They
require a number of Field
Marshalls and have offered
the Field Marshall positions
to us. To volunteer or for
more information call Liz
Karpluk at Flowers by
Valleyview, 374-4312. or
Wilf Schneider, 374-7201.
We will require about 20
volunteers and no previous
experience is necessary.
