Synchronica receives
first certification order from device manufacturer
Synchronica announced that
it has completed an order
from a ‘top-10’ mobile device
manufacturer to certify and license
its IMPS instant messaging
client to be pre-installed on
6 models of the manufacturer’s
handsets. This work satisfies a
new prerequisite from a major
Latin American operator group
which mandates device manufacturers
certify their devices
with Synchronica’s IM infrastructure.
The order is worth
an initial $48,000.
Synchronica has announces
that it has acquired iseemedia,
a Canadian-based developer
of mobile Email and
Content Delivery Platforms.
By acquiring iseemedia, Synchronica
has taken a bold step
in its goal to become the leader
in next-generation mobile
messaging solutions in highgrowth
emerging markets.
iseemedia’s strong presence in
India, the world’s second largest
mobile market, is of particular
strategic importance to
Synchronica. The acquisition
brings Synchronica’s total addressable
market to 853 million
subscribers worldwide.
With the device certification
process the operator intends
to ensure full compatibility
and increase the mobile usage
of its own IM service in order
to protect its market position.
Operators are facing a growing
threat from premium device
manufacturers who are
increasingly marketing devicespecific
services as a means of
establishing direct relationships
with end-users thereby
reducing the influence of the
operator. Synchronica’s IM
service provides a vendor-neutral,
operator-owned instant
messaging system which binds
users to the brand and puts
the operator back in control of
its value-added services portfolio.
This is the first order that Synchronica
has obtained from
a device manufacturer as a
consequence of the operator’s
device certification requirements.
Synchronica expects to
receive further orders from a
number of device manufacturers
wishing to sell devices to
Already a leading player in
emerging markets, Synchronica’s
award-winning products
are currently in use by 40 mobile
operator customers worldwide.
Synchronica’s flagship
product, Mobile Gateway, provides
Push Email and Synchronization,
Instant Messaging
(IM), Social Networking Services
(SNS) and Web-Feeds to
consumers and business users,
regardless of the type of handset
they use.
Carsten Brinkschulte
the operator.
A recent report from Visiongain
suggests that mobile IM provides
operators with a unique
opportunity to increase their
revenues, further strengthen
their services, introduce new
Iseemedia’s focus on entrylevel
messaging services for
emerging markets complements
Synchronica’s strong
presence in these regions. Iseemedia’s
flagship “iseedocs”
product uses advanced streaming
to reduce network bandwidth
consumption by as much
as 90% when downloading
Email attachments. This patent-pending
document streaming
technology, which is ideal
for operators that seek to conserve
expensive bandwidth,
will be integrated into the next
version of Synchronica Mobile
Gateway.
“This acquisition adds 180 million
end users to Synchronica’s
addressable market worldwide
and brings us that much closer
to breaking the magical onebillion
barrier,” said Carsten
plans, increase network traffic,
and build customer loyalty. Accordingly,
Visiongain expects
that by the end of 2012, mobile
IM will deliver a compound annual
growth rate of 68.2%.
Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO
of Synchronica, comments:
“We’re thrilled that major operators
are using Synchronica’s
award-winning products to
provide innovative self-branded
messaging services to their
subscribers. Device certification
ensures that subscribers
enjoy the best user experience
when accessing the IM service,
regardless of the type of handset
they use. We look forward
to working closely with device
manufacturers to provide full
certification of their handsets
to our IM infrastructure.” T
Lindsey Lee
Synchronica acquires iseemedia to become
market leader in messaging solutions for
emerging markets
Brinkschulte, Synchronica
CEO. “In these high-growth,
high-churn emerging markets,
the further strengthened Synchronica
can continue to help
operators differentiate themselves
and reduce churn with
an advanced, bandwidth-efficient,
messaging platform that
supports any phone.”
Anthony DeCristofaro, CEO
and President of iseemedia,
adds: “We are extremely
pleased to now join forces
with Synchronica, creating the
worldwide leading provider of
advanced messaging solutions
from basic handsets to Smartphones.”
