aeCERT takes part in<br />
“Children Protection against ICT Crimes” Forum<br />
In line with its strategy <strong>to</strong><br />
further develop and enhance<br />
the performance of<br />
the telecommunications sec<strong>to</strong>r<br />
in the UAE, the Telecommunications<br />
Regula<strong>to</strong>ry Authority<br />
(TRA) represented<br />
by the Computer Emergency<br />
Response Team (aeCERT) –<br />
formed <strong>to</strong> facilitate the detection,<br />
prevention and response<br />
of cyber security incidents<br />
on the Internet –participates<br />
in the “Children Protection<br />
Against ICT Crimes” forum<br />
that was hold on 5th of <strong>Oct</strong>ober<br />
at the Center of Studies<br />
and Research of the Police<br />
Academy in Dubai. The forum<br />
will discuss the repercussions<br />
of online crimes that are targeting<br />
children.<br />
aeCERT <strong>to</strong>ok part in the forum<br />
by a platform that showcased<br />
a number of services about<br />
different aspects of electronic<br />
safety, giving users, i.e. both<br />
children and parents, the latest<br />
technologies that can<br />
ensure a safe electronic environment<br />
for them. aeCERT<br />
members also handed out<br />
flyers and presented “Salim”<br />
games, which provide useful<br />
information <strong>to</strong> children regarding<br />
the optimal use of the<br />
Internet and the way of handling<br />
the potential dangers<br />
that may arise daily whilst using<br />
the world Wide Web. The<br />
episode of “Shabaiyat el Car<strong>to</strong>on”<br />
was shown, where “Salim”<br />
appeared and which was<br />
aired during the Holy month<br />
of Ramadan.<br />
Aiming <strong>to</strong> offer the participants<br />
in the forum more details,<br />
a keynote was presented,<br />
shedding light on the new<br />
features of the twenty-first<br />
century which is known as<br />
the Era of Information Revolution.<br />
The presentation explained<br />
the different sorts of<br />
electronic dangers directed at<br />
children, how <strong>to</strong> avoid them<br />
and the role of parents, guardians<br />
and those responsible in<br />
schools and teaching institutions<br />
in providing help and<br />
granting advice <strong>to</strong> children,<br />
in addition <strong>to</strong> the moni<strong>to</strong>ring<br />
role entrusted <strong>to</strong> them.<br />
The participation of aeCERT in<br />
the forum tackled many subjects<br />
and covered the biggest<br />
number of risks that face children<br />
while surfing in the internet,<br />
starting with unethical<br />
websites and others that contain<br />
violent scenes, in addition<br />
<strong>to</strong> the web pages whose content<br />
contradicts our traditions<br />
and religious and social values.<br />
Moreover, other subjects<br />
were discussed related <strong>to</strong> the<br />
wrong online behaviors, such<br />
as talking with strangers and<br />
exchanging personal information<br />
and pictures through social<br />
websites.<br />
