aeCERT takes part in
“Children Protection against ICT Crimes” Forum
In line with its strategy to
further develop and enhance
the performance of
the telecommunications sector
in the UAE, the Telecommunications
Regulatory Authority
(TRA) represented
by the Computer Emergency
Response Team (aeCERT) –
formed to facilitate the detection,
prevention and response
of cyber security incidents
on the Internet –participates
in the “Children Protection
Against ICT Crimes” forum
that was hold on 5th of October
at the Center of Studies
and Research of the Police
Academy in Dubai. The forum
will discuss the repercussions
of online crimes that are targeting
children.
aeCERT took part in the forum
by a platform that showcased
a number of services about
different aspects of electronic
safety, giving users, i.e. both
children and parents, the latest
technologies that can
ensure a safe electronic environment
for them. aeCERT
members also handed out
flyers and presented “Salim”
games, which provide useful
information to children regarding
the optimal use of the
Internet and the way of handling
the potential dangers
that may arise daily whilst using
the world Wide Web. The
episode of “Shabaiyat el Cartoon”
was shown, where “Salim”
appeared and which was
aired during the Holy month
of Ramadan.
Aiming to offer the participants
in the forum more details,
a keynote was presented,
shedding light on the new
features of the twenty-first
century which is known as
the Era of Information Revolution.
The presentation explained
the different sorts of
electronic dangers directed at
children, how to avoid them
and the role of parents, guardians
and those responsible in
schools and teaching institutions
in providing help and
granting advice to children,
in addition to the monitoring
role entrusted to them.
The participation of aeCERT in
the forum tackled many subjects
and covered the biggest
number of risks that face children
while surfing in the internet,
starting with unethical
websites and others that contain
violent scenes, in addition
to the web pages whose content
contradicts our traditions
and religious and social values.
Moreover, other subjects
were discussed related to the
wrong online behaviors, such
as talking with strangers and
exchanging personal information
and pictures through social
websites.
