Eligibility Criteria<br />

Bachelor’s/Masters degree in Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences<br />

and Animal Husbandry, Forestry, Horticulture, Dairy Technology,<br />

Agricultural Engineering, Home Science & Fisheries will be<br />

considered eligible. Candidates appearing for the qualifying<br />

examination may apply but completion of degree is required before<br />

Group Discussion & Interview. Candidates of SC & ST categories<br />

with 45% marks and candidates of all other categories with 50%<br />

marks are eligible. Candidates with good CAT/MAT score will be<br />

considered & be exempted from the written test.<br />

The Programme<br />

The two year MBA in Agri-Business Management from <strong>ITM</strong><br />

provides an ideal academic environment, practical interaction with<br />

concerned organisations and adequate field experience to develop<br />

the students into enterprising Agri Business Managers in order to<br />

meet the growing demand from the related sectors. The course<br />

is taught through the latest teaching techniques including case<br />

studies, interactive sessions, seminars, group exercises, role plays,<br />

simulated exercises, experiential learning, etc. The programme is<br />

designed to transform dynamic and determined agri graduate to Hi-<br />

Tech Agri business managers for agri industries in India.<br />

8% since 2003. In 2005 and 2006 GDP grew at a rate of over<br />

9%. Globally India’s growth is surpassed only by that of China.<br />

• India is the third largest economy in Asia after Japan and China,<br />

as measured in terms of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and<br />

it is continuing to grow rapidly.<br />

• India’s agricultural area is vast with total arable and permanent<br />

cropland of 170 million hectares.<br />

• Indian agricultural exports totaled $9.3 billion in the year 2005.<br />

• The market size of global food, beverage and agri products was<br />

estimated to be US $ 4320 billion in 2010 with CAGR around<br />

3.35%<br />

• Agro Processing Sector is the largest employment provider in<br />

the world & India<br />

• Agricultural exports from India represent 9% of the value of total<br />

exports while the share of agriculture in total imports is just 5%.<br />

Overview<br />

Agriculture is considered as the backbone of our economy. Indian agriculture<br />

contributes approximately 17.50 per cent of the country’s GDP, provides large<br />

scale employment and fulfills the food and nutritional requirements of the nation.<br />

It provides important raw materials for some major industries. Indian agriculture<br />

faces numerous challenges with a rapidly changing business environment, pace<br />

of technological change, globalisation, competitive environment and changing<br />

role of government.Today, agriculture has achieved commercial importance and<br />

has changed from subsistence farming to commercial farming, import oriented<br />

to export oriented, supply driven technology to demand driven technology etc.<br />

New inputs and new technologies are hitting market everyday. The market for<br />

processed and packaged food products is increasing day by day and therefore<br />

there is a vital need of trained manpower in this business.Only 14 per cent of total<br />

food products are being processed in India, whereas 35 per cent food is wasted<br />

during packaging and transportation. Many businesses started building up in and<br />

around agriculture.This resulted in growth of Agri – business. Agri – business<br />

management is becoming a popular career choice for agriculture students<br />

and there is great need to develop the professional agribusiness managers<br />

who cannot only fill the management requirements of the changing agriculture<br />

scenario but also prove to be a great support to the farmers.Agri – business<br />

education is a qualification that helps mould the personnel into good managers<br />

having managerial expertise.<br />

About the course<br />

The Agri Business Management includes courses in agricultural business and<br />

economics, science, and agricultural technology. Students learn to apply the<br />

concepts, principles and terminology of business (economics, management,<br />

finance, marketing and others) to real-world issues and opportunities in the<br />

agricultural and life sciences industry. MBA in Agri Business include area<br />

like production and marketing of seeds and fertilizers, export-import of<br />

products, rural banking, agricultural projects, water management systems,<br />

land management, machine used in agriculture etc. The students admitted are<br />

provides excellent exposure to agribusiness management and rural marketing<br />

by extensive interaction with the industry. Further, the students get opportunity<br />
