Humane Society reduces adoption fees in <strong>December</strong><br />

The Toledo Area Humane<br />

Society has reduced adoption<br />

prices through <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>December</strong>.<br />

The following rates<br />

apply:<br />

•Dogs who have been at<br />

<strong>the</strong> shelter for some time will<br />

have <strong>the</strong>ir adoption fees reduced<br />

to $25.<br />

•All o<strong>the</strong>r dogs over <strong>the</strong><br />

age <strong>of</strong> 6 months will receive<br />

$25 <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong>ir adoption fees.<br />

•All adult cats will have<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir adoption fees reduced to<br />

just $25.<br />

•Kittens will have <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

adoption fees reduced to $50.<br />

•Pocket pet adoption fees<br />

are reduced to $2.50.<br />

In return, TAHS asks<br />

prospective pet owners to<br />

bring in a gift from <strong>the</strong>ir Wish<br />

List when you visit <strong>the</strong> shelter<br />

to adopt. Items like<br />

canned dog and cat food, new<br />

or gently used blankets and<br />

towels, dog and cat treats,<br />

Debbie Johnson, director <strong>of</strong><br />

operations at TAHS. “Just because<br />

<strong>the</strong> ASPCA Challenge<br />

is over, we haven’t lost <strong>the</strong><br />

momentum <strong>of</strong> finding new<br />

homes for <strong>the</strong> animals in our<br />

care and we’d love to see <strong>the</strong><br />

shelter as empty as possible,<br />

especially for <strong>the</strong> holidays.”<br />

leagues for youth<br />

The Fort Meigs YMCA is<br />

<strong>of</strong>fering preschool basketball<br />

and K-1 indoor soccer this<br />

winter.<br />

The basketball league is a<br />

co-ed program for children<br />

ages 3 to 5 who are not in<br />

kindergarten. Basketball<br />

games are played at <strong>the</strong><br />

YMCA.<br />

The soccer league is a coed<br />

program for students in<br />

kindergarten and first grade.<br />

Soccer games are played at<br />

<strong>the</strong> YMCA Adventure Center.<br />

The programs place a<br />

strong emphasis on fun, fair<br />

play, equal playing time and<br />

learning <strong>the</strong> fundamentals <strong>of</strong><br />

each sport. No scores are<br />

kept. All players learn and<br />

play each position.<br />

Volunteer parent coaches<br />

are needed. The season will<br />

consist <strong>of</strong> seven games which<br />

are played on Saturdays. Each<br />

game lasts approximately 30<br />

minutes.<br />

Registration is open<br />

through <strong>December</strong> 21, or<br />

until <strong>the</strong> programs are full.<br />

The season runs January 7 to<br />

February 23.<br />

Now is <strong>the</strong> time to check your mailbox to ensure that it<br />

will withstand <strong>the</strong> winter snows. The City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Perrysburg</strong><br />

will not repair any mailboxes which are damaged<br />

as a result <strong>of</strong> snow and/or ice or<br />

any o<strong>the</strong>r object dispersed by <strong>the</strong><br />

snowplow. It is <strong>the</strong> homeowners’ responsibility<br />

to maintain <strong>the</strong>ir mailbox<br />

to withstand <strong>the</strong> rigors <strong>of</strong> a winter <strong>of</strong><br />

snow. Mailboxes should not overhang<br />

any curb nor pavement surfaces<br />

used as part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> travel<br />

lanes. The City will only replace/repair<br />

mailboxes that<br />

are actually hit by <strong>the</strong> snowplow<br />

but will not repair any mailboxes which overhang<br />

<strong>the</strong> curb or edge <strong>of</strong> pavement.<br />
