Patrick "Padd" Williams By Nyla Creed DePauk Patrick "Padd" Williams was born about 1810, in Virginia. He married first Mary "Polly" Scarbrough about 1828, daughter of John Scarbrough and Eleanor Harper. She was born between 1812 and 1815 in Monroe County. He married second Elizabeth Ballenger on January 26, 1871 They were married by the Reverend James Scarbrough. Elizabeth was born about 1827. One of the three Williams families listed in the 1830 Logan County, Virginia, census was that of Patrick Williams. Patrick was also listed in the 1840 Fayette County, Virginia, census. <strong>Patrick</strong> "Padd" <strong>Williams</strong> was born about 1810, in <strong>Virginia</strong>. He married first Mary<br />

"Polly" Scarbrough about 1828, daughter <strong>of</strong> John Scarbrough and Eleanor Harper. She<br />

was born between 1812 and 1815 in Monroe County. He married second Elizabeth<br />

Ballenger on January 26, 1871 They were married by the Reverend James Scarbrough.<br />

Elizabeth was born about 1827.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> the three <strong>Williams</strong> families listed in the 1830 Logan County, <strong>Virginia</strong>, census was<br />

that <strong>of</strong> <strong>Patrick</strong> <strong>Williams</strong>. <strong>Patrick</strong> was also listed in the 1840 Fayette County, <strong>Virginia</strong>,<br />

census.<br />

Captain William Turner, in his article entitled "Stover and <strong>Williams</strong> Reunion 1923 -<br />

Reminiscences," states that "Lonesome Dave" <strong>Williams</strong> had a son <strong>Patrick</strong> who was called<br />

"Padd."<br />

Toney's Fork.<br />

1. Mahala <strong>Williams</strong> was born about 1829 in <strong>Virginia</strong>. She married Jeremiah Bragg<br />

on January 6, 1858, in Fayette County. Jeremiah, the son <strong>of</strong> Daniel Bragg and Isabella<br />

Meadows, was born in Greenbrier County.<br />

-1 Jeremiah Bragg was born about 1861.<br />

-2 Eliza Ann Bragg was born about 1864.<br />

2. Catherine "Kate" <strong>Williams</strong> was born about 1833 in Fayette County. She<br />

married Lewis Charles "Gulf" Stover on August 19, 1855, in Raleigh County, son <strong>of</strong><br />

Lewis Stover and Delilah Moles. He was born about May 1834 in Fayette County, and<br />

he died before 1880.<br />

Children <strong>of</strong> Catherine <strong>Williams</strong> and Lewis Stover are:<br />

-1 Callaway C. Stover, born May 22, 1856, in Raleigh County, died about<br />

1934. He married first Mahulda (Mahala) Scarbrough on September 10, 1875, in Fayette<br />

County. She was born about March 1853 in Fayette County. About 1905, Callaway<br />

married second Lillie Ann Shreve who was born between 1874 and 1877, in <strong>West</strong><br />

<strong>Virginia</strong>, and died March 2, 1960.<br />

-2 Isom Whitney Stover, born December 11, 1858, in Fayette County, died<br />

February 11, 1926, in Fayette County. He married Emma Alvie (Emily) Windsor on<br />

August 4, 1881, in Fayette County. Emma was born July 11, 1866, in Raleigh County,<br />

and died January 19, 1931.<br />

-3 Alonzo Henry Stover, born August 17, 1859, in Raleigh County, died<br />

before 1933.<br />

-4 Joseph Lewis "Joe" Stover, born October 11, 1861, in Fayette County,<br />

died about January 27, 1933, at Prosperity, Raleigh County. He married Mosella Light<br />

about 1885. Mosella was born November 11, 1866, in Floyd County, and died December<br />

4, 1950, at Prosperity.<br />

3. Elizabeth <strong>Williams</strong>, born about 1837, in Fayette County, died April 3, 1855, in<br />

Raleigh County. She married George Stover on July 1, 1854, in Raleigh County. They<br />

were married by the Reverend Claiborne Curtis. George was the son <strong>of</strong> Obediah Stover<br />

and Massey Stanley. He was born about 1834 in Fayette County.<br />

Child <strong>of</strong> Elizabeth <strong>Williams</strong> and George Stover:<br />

-1 Preston Stover, born about 1855, in Raleigh County, died before 1930,<br />

probably in Kanawha County. He married Vanilla (Vernilla) Jarrell on June 16, 1875, in<br />

Raleigh County. They were married by Tollison Stover. Information provided by<br />

Captain Charles Stover. Vanilla was born May 2, 1856, in Raleigh County.<br />

4. Robinson <strong>Williams</strong>, born November 1838, at Sand Branch, Fayette County, died<br />

October 5, 1928, at Long Branch, Fayette County. He married Mary Jane Stover on<br />

September 11, 1856, in Raleigh County. They were married by the Reverend Claiborne<br />

Curtis. Mary was the daughter <strong>of</strong> John Stover and Eliza <strong>Williams</strong>. Mary was born<br />

February 11, 1840, in Raleigh County, and died January 16, 1918.<br />

Children <strong>of</strong> Robinson <strong>Williams</strong> and Mary Stover are:<br />

-1 Garland <strong>Williams</strong>, born October 12, 1857, in Raleigh County, died<br />

December 25, 1944, at Long Branch, Fayette County. He married Adaline Smith on<br />

August 19, 1878, in Raleigh County. They were married by William E. Feazell. Adaline<br />

was born March 31, 1856, in Raleigh County, and died December 12, 1940, at Pax,<br />

Fayette County.<br />

-2 Martha Jane <strong>Williams</strong>, born November 25, 1858, in Raleigh County, died<br />

October 18, 1931, at Willis Branch, Fayette County. She married Edward Lafferty on<br />

January 10, 1877, in Raleigh County. They were married by William H. Bailey. Edward<br />

was born April 5, 1855, in Fayette County, and died before 1921.<br />

-3 Adaline <strong>Williams</strong>, born about September 1859, in Raleigh County, died<br />

July 20, 1935, at Willis Branch, Fayette County. She married Andrew Lafferty on March<br />

4, 1876, in Raleigh County. They were married by William E. Feazell. Information to<br />

obtain the marriage license was given by Robinson <strong>Williams</strong>. Andrew was born<br />

November 15, 1853, in Fayette County, and died October 2, 1921, at Pax, Fayette<br />

County.<br />

-4 Arminta "Mintie" <strong>Williams</strong>, born about March 1860, in Raleigh County,<br />

died about 1925, in Raleigh County. She married Andrew <strong>Williams</strong>, Jr., on December<br />

22, 1879, in Raleigh County. They were married by G. W. Carper. Information to obtain<br />

the marriage license was given by Leonard <strong>Williams</strong>. Andrew was born October 9, 1854,<br />

in Raleigh County, and died about 1923, in Raleigh County.<br />

-5 Andrew (William) (Ferguson) "Cub" <strong>Williams</strong>, born January 13, 1862, in<br />

Raleigh County, died December 18, 1942, at Weirwood, Fayette County. He married<br />

Sarah Ellen Cottle, born March 27, 1869, at Sand Branch, Raleigh County, and died<br />

March 30, 1934, at Long Branch, Fayette County.<br />

-6 Lucinda "Cindy" <strong>Williams</strong>, born about 1863, in Raleigh County, died<br />

October 13, 1932. She married Calahill Minice Smith on July 7, 1883, in Raleigh<br />

County. Calahill was born about 1839 in Kanawha County.<br />

-7. Benjamin "Ben" <strong>Williams</strong> was born September 30, 1866, in Raleigh<br />

County. He married first Laura Louisa (Phillips) Montgomery on April 27, 1888, in<br />

Raleigh County. They were married by William H. Bailey. Laura was born about1865 in<br />

Franklin County, and died November 15, 1914, in Raleigh County. Benjamin may have<br />

married a second time about 1900. I do not know her name, however.<br />

-8 Eliza (Elizabeth) <strong>Williams</strong> was born December 24, 1866, in Fayette<br />

County. She married William D. Stroud on August 10, 1880, in Raleigh County. They<br />

were married by William E. Feazell. Information to obtain the marriage license was<br />

provided by Garland <strong>Williams</strong>. William was born December 16, 1820, at Petersburg,<br />

Dinwiddie (Chesterfield) County, <strong>Virginia</strong>, and died before about 1900, probably in<br />

Fayette County.<br />

-9 Sarah Frances <strong>Williams</strong>, born September 9, 1868, died October 27, 1935,<br />

at Pax, Fayette County. She married William Jackson "Bill" Treadway on March 6,<br />

1892, in Raleigh County. William was born May 18, 1871, at Prosperity, Raleigh<br />

County, and died March 2, 1941, in Fayette County.<br />

-10 Thomas Wesley <strong>Williams</strong>, born May 4, 1870, at Maple Fork, Raleigh<br />

County, died October 4, 1958, at Pax, Fayette County. He married Clara Tilden Lively<br />

on July 21, 1892. Clara was born December 3, 1876, at Lively, Fayette County, and died<br />

October 4, 1977.<br />

-11 ______ <strong>Williams</strong> was born October 5, 1871, in Fayette County.<br />

-12 Hansford H. <strong>Williams</strong>, born October 14, 1873, died June 9, 1956. He<br />

married Julia Ann Humphrey about 1893. She was born June 27, 1863, in Fayette<br />

County, and died May 4, 1940.<br />

-13 Morris Renix <strong>Williams</strong> was born about 1874, at Cabin Creek, Fayette<br />

County.<br />

-14 Almeda (Child 1) <strong>Williams</strong> was born and died on June 5, 1875.<br />

-15 Alethia (Letha) <strong>Williams</strong>, born November 20, 1876, in Raleigh County,<br />

married first ______ Kincaid. She married second ______ Ferrell.<br />

-16. Almeda (Child 2) <strong>Williams</strong> was born November 20, 1876, in Raleigh<br />

County.<br />

-17. Mina <strong>Williams</strong>, born March 1, 1879, died between 1928 and 1929. She<br />

married James Hampton "Hamp" Wingrove on September 15, 1894. James was born<br />

January 7, 1875, in Fayette County, and died about 1931.<br />

-18. Minnie <strong>Williams</strong>, born March 1, 1879, died December 1, 1963. She<br />

married James William Dotson, born October 24, 1871, at Pax, Fayette County, and died<br />

September 14, 1963, at Oak Hill, Fayette County.<br />

-19. Amanda <strong>Williams</strong>, born March 7, 1882, died February 24, 1973. She<br />

married Charles Lively who was born March 11, 1884, and died about 1933.<br />

-20. Susan <strong>Williams</strong>, born February 28, 1884, died August 19, 1950. She<br />

married Charles Kincaid who was born about March 25, 1877, and died March 26, 1950.<br />

-21. Stewart <strong>Williams</strong>, born in Fayette County, married Hattie Harmon about<br />

1905. Hattie was born about 1886.<br />

-22 Rubin Ernest "Ern" <strong>Williams</strong>, born about April 1888, died about 1929. He<br />

was murdered by Dillard Foster. Rubin married Eva Mae Pettry, born August 7, 1890, at<br />

Winfield, Putnam County, and died December 6, 1984, at Hilltop, Fayette County.<br />

5. Henderson <strong>Williams</strong>, born December 25, 1838, in <strong>Virginia</strong>, died October 25,<br />

1898, possibly at Huntington, Cabell County. He married Martha Isabelle Honaker<br />

about1860, in Fayette County. She was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Samuel Honaker and Lucinda<br />

Bean. Martha was born April 5, 1840, at Willow Bend, Monroe County, and died<br />

January 15, 1912, at Cirtsville, Raleigh County.<br />

Children <strong>of</strong> Henderson <strong>Williams</strong> and Martha Honaker are:<br />

-1 Eunice <strong>Williams</strong>, born August 1862, in Fayette County, died January 7,<br />

1922. She married James Wade Maynor on August 16, 1881, in Raleigh County. They<br />

were married by William E. Feazell. Information to obtain the marriage license was<br />

given by Amos P. Maynor. James was born in January 1859 in Raleigh County.<br />

-2. Reverend Thomas Jefferson "T. J." <strong>Williams</strong>, was born July 19, 1863, in<br />

Raleigh County, and died about 1944 in Raleigh County. He married Louisa Jane<br />

Maynor on April 17, 1882, possibly in Monroe County. Louisa was born November 8,<br />

1866, at Paint Creek, Raleigh County. She died March 21, 1932, in Raleigh County.<br />

-3. Preston <strong>Williams</strong>, born May 24, 1865, in Fayette County, died May 20,<br />

1936, at Cirtsville, Raleigh County. He married first Adaline Stover on October 24,<br />

1888, in Raleigh County. Adaline was born June 11, 1873, in Raleigh County, and died<br />

October 4, 1949, in Raleigh County. He married second Iowa Luvena C. Craddock on<br />

December 25, 1905, in Raleigh County. The marriage ceremony was performed by E. L.<br />

Kidd at the home <strong>of</strong> the bride. Information provided by G. P. <strong>Williams</strong> and C. J.<br />

Craddock. Luvena was born April 13, 1869, in Raleigh County, and died June 17, 1947.<br />

-4 Henry <strong>Williams</strong>, born April 29, 1867, in Kanawha County (birth recorded<br />

in Fayette County), died March 3, 1896, at Cirtsville, Raleigh County. He married Letitia<br />

Ann (Leslie) Maynor on November 14, 1890, in Raleigh County. The sermon was read<br />

by Lafayette Kidd, Minister <strong>of</strong> Methodist Episcopal Church, at Swinfield Maynor's<br />

home. Information provided by Swinfield Maynor, Henderson <strong>Williams</strong>, and L. F.<br />

Maynor. Letitia was born in April 1865, in Raleigh County.<br />

-5 John "Johnnie" <strong>Williams</strong>, born April 1870, probably in Raleigh County,<br />

and died October 1, 1878, in Raleigh County.<br />

-6. Ballard <strong>Williams</strong>, born April 28, 1874, probably in Raleigh County, died<br />

September 26, 1878, in Raleigh County.<br />

-7. Charles <strong>Williams</strong>, born May 18, 1877, in Raleigh County, died September<br />

10, 1878, in Raleigh County.<br />

-8. Franklin James (George) <strong>Williams</strong>, born August 15, 1879, at Cirtsville,<br />

Raleigh County, died November 6, 1959. He married Edna Right Maynor on March 26,<br />

1901, in Raleigh County. Edna was born March 13, 1877, and died September 11, 1936.<br />

-9 Alfred Lee <strong>Williams</strong>, born August 9, 1879, died in January 1957, in<br />

Raleigh County. He married first Lucy Ann Feazell on December 27, 1904, in Raleigh<br />

County. They were married by A. C. Godbey at the home <strong>of</strong> Thomas <strong>Williams</strong>. Lucy<br />

was born August 4, 1889, and died November 1, 1941, in Raleigh County. He married<br />

second Vivian Stone after 1941.<br />

-10 Joseph Lewis "Slick" <strong>Williams</strong>, born July 20, 1884, in Raleigh County,<br />

died October 10, 1944, in Beckley, Raleigh County. He married first Nancy J. Davis,<br />

born June 5, 1884, in Raleigh County, and died October 7, 1968, at Maple Fork, Raleigh<br />

County. He married second Lucy Ellen Browning on April 3, 1909, in Raleigh County.<br />

She was born about 1887 in Raleigh County. He married third Lutie Toney about 1939.<br />

Lutie was born March 2, 1910, and died January 17, 1998, at Mercy Village, Mariemont,<br />

Ohio.<br />

6. Daniel <strong>Williams</strong> was born about 1840 in <strong>Virginia</strong>. He probably died young.<br />

7. Adeline <strong>Williams</strong>, born about 1842 in <strong>Virginia</strong>, probably died at Mossy Creek, in<br />

Fayette County. She married Jesse Toney, son <strong>of</strong> Jesse Toney and Amanda Jarrell. He<br />

was born about 1841, and probably died at Mossy Creek, Fayette County.<br />

6, 1940.<br />

-6. <strong>Virginia</strong> "Ginny" Toney, born about 1867, died December 12, 1933.<br />

8. <strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>Williams</strong>, born about 1847 in <strong>Virginia</strong>, died before 1895. She married<br />

Lorenzo Dow Fisher on April 8, 1870, in Fayette County. They were married by the<br />

Reverend J. S. Flory. Lorenzo was the son <strong>of</strong> William Fisher and Elizabeth Bush. He<br />

was born March 18, 1833, in Monroe County, and died January 31, 1918, in Sumner<br />

County, Kansas.<br />

Fayette County, died July 21, 1954, at Wichita, Sedwick County, Kansas. He married<br />

Susan Alice "Susie" Dawson on December 24, 1906, in Wellington, Sumner County,<br />

Kansas. Susan was born November 8, 1882, at Oakhill, Peoria County, Illinois, and died<br />

February 8, 1970, in Wichita, Sedwick County, Kansas.<br />

-8 Joseph Ward “J. W” Fisher, born July 7, 1883, at Plum Orchard, Fayette<br />

County, died April 22, 1944. He married Mary Ford on February 4, 1914, in Kansas.<br />
