KC, Ana-Lab to hold benefit concert
Sept. 20 featuring KC musicians
September 20, 2007 ~ Dodson Auditorium ~ Kilgore College
A Benefit for world hunger
It’s not every day one
gets the opportunity
to help a child halfway
around the
world, but residents
of East Texas will have
The Kilgore College
Hall of Fame Committee
has chosen the newest
members of the Hall of Fame
for the 2007 season. This
year’s inductees are: 1964-
65 Men’s Basketball Team;
men’s basketball player
Sammy Hervey (1970-72),
women’s basketball player
ShaRhonda Reynolds
(1991-93), football
player Victor Jordan
(1940-41) and
football coach Charlie
just that opportunity on
Sept. 20. The Ana-Lab
Corporation of Kilgore
is currently seeking
donors for the concert it
is sponsoring 7 p.m. Sept.
on the Kilgore College
campus. The concert
will feature a keynote
speaker, the KC Chorale,
KC Wind Symphony and
the Community Children’s
Chorus.
“Almost every nation
of the world has hungry
people,” said C.H.
Whiteside, owner of Ana-
Lab. “On a world-wide
basis, we have adequate
food, but distribution is a
serious problem, further
Simmons
(1967-75).
Also, the
Clyde Lee
Players
Association
and Latane Speer, KC
government instructor since
1971, were chosen in the
“Contributor” category.
A Hall of Fame benefit
golf tournament will be held
on Oct. 19 and inductees will
be introduced at a luncheon
and during the halftime
complicated by politics.”
Whiteside said he feels
an obligation to feed as
many hungry kids as he can.
“I feel God wants me to
raise money and leave the
political and distribution
problems to others
experienced in these areas,”
Whiteside said. “What if your
child was hungry What
would you do to provide
him/her with food”
The Community
Children’s Chorus is
composed of children who
are members of choirs
from First Baptist, St. Luke’s
Methodist and Forest Home
Baptist churches.
“This group of
approximately 75 boys
and girls represents, to
me, children helping other
children,” said Jeanne
Johnson, music instructor.
“Isn’t that a wonderful point
to be teaching them”
There are seven charities
from which to choose.
Donation checks can be
mailed to the Ana-Lab
Corporation, P.O. Box 9000,
“As always, I look
forward to this year’s Hall
the most rewarding and
inspirational events of the
year,” said David Castles,
President’s
Perspective
the moment
(and the opportunity!)
Following fall
registration, the
institution is basking
in the glow of what appears to be a record enrollment.
With the possibility of crossing the threshold of 5,000
in student headcount, we must immediately forge a
comprehensive plan to sustain this momentum and
significantly grow into the next base year.
Kilgore College must look at all components and
strategies which will cause this growth to be sustained.
Here are a few of the initiatives we must engage:
• Retain the current students in record numbers.
KC will need the combined efforts of all faculty and staff
and the Student Success Program to nurture and support
students who might otherwise not persist and re-enroll.
• Greatly expand dual credit opportunities to
area high school students. No later than Fall, 2008, KC
will most likely offer discounted tuition to high school
students, send recruitment and support teams to all
the area schools, and build capacity with additional
instructional staff.
• Expand outreach to potential students. KC will
have to use more faculty and staff in various departments
and roles to seriously market and recruit. Our dedicated
marketing and recruitment staff is simply not large
enough to affect the level of outreach we must achieve.
• Market the federal student loan program. Without
question, the availability of additional financial resources
will enable more individuals to enroll in more classes
and more quickly achieve their educational goals. We
must market not only the availability, but also the
responsibilities which accompany the loan program.
• Use off-site outreach and classes throughout the
service area. KC must consider a variety of courses and
programs – not just early admission – for the residents
in communities like Henderson, Hallsville, White Oak
and Gladewater. We must take more educational
opportunities directly to the people and grow all of our
online offerings.
• Increase responsiveness to workforce
development needs. The business and industry
community is crying out for a trained workforce. It will
be our responsibility to partner with them to meet their
needs.
This is just a beginning. We have a wonderful
opportunity and we cannot squander this moment.
Momentum is a powerful phenomenon – we must
sustain what we have begun!
local businesses to train
received four grants
totaling more than
$786,000 to do so.
The training is funded
through the Texas
Workforce Commission’s
Skills Development Fund.
The fund finances the
implementation and
design of customized
job training projects for
businesses and trade
unions in an effort to
raise the skills level
and wages of the Texas
workforce.
The four KC grants
include money to train
current employees at
and provide outdoor areas for wireless connectivity.”
So far, buildings that are fully wireless enabled are:
