We have a community block party on the first Tuesday in August to coordinate with
National Night Out. This year will be on Tuesday, August 4th. The participation for our
community has been in excess of 250 homeowners and tenants. What a great way to
advertise your product or services.
NEEDED!! We need volunteers to help with:
• 4-6 strong people to setup tables and chairs at 4:00 p.m.
• 2-4 people to set up table cloths, balloons at 4:30 p.m.
• 2-3 people to assist with the sign in table 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• 2-3 people to assist with food drive 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• 4-6 strong people to clean up tables and chairs at 8:00 p.m.
NEEDED!! Donations for:
• Littleton Meals-on-Wheels Program
• Bath towel and Wash Cloth Drive
• Dog and Cat Food, canned or dry (no larger than 10 pound bags).
The Littleton Meals on Wheels program prepares and delivers hot meals to 275 individuals
a day, 80% of which have pets. Their pet program is called WALOP; We All
Love Our Pets.
• Non-perishable food and personal hygiene items for The Gathering Place. The
Gathering Place is Denver’s only daytime drop-in center for women and children who
are experiencing homelessness and poverty in Denver.

Pet Reminders
Leash and excrement removal requirements
It’s that time of the year again when piles of dog feces begin to grow. It is obvious
that some pet owners are not cleaning up after their dogs. Probably one of the most concentrated
areas of feces is along the south end of the community, along the reservoir, but
there are many others too. In some places it looks like a dog run. It is apparent that dogs
are being allowed to run at large and the waste is not being cleaned up by the owner. All
pet owners are advised that the City of Littleton has a leash law and waste removal ordinance.
In addition, the Association also has rules governing these same ordinances.
Efforts to reduce the unsightly, smelly and unhealthy problem rests with all residents.

Pet Reminders, continued from front page
For the most expedient action, residents are urged to contact and file a complaint with the
City of Littleton Animal Control at 303-794-1551 when they observe pet owners that do
not pick-up after their pet and/or allow them to run at large.
Another option is to file a written and signed complaint (photos are helpful too) with
the Association. However, the process can take as long as 75 days before penalties can be
imposed. The complainant must provide the date, time, location, description of the dog,
alleged violation and address of where the dog owner resides. The Association will follow-up
with the pet owner with a 1st and if necessary 2nd written warning letter. If the
issue is not rectified after these letters, the pet owner may be summoned to a hearing
before the Board of Directors and could be assessed a fine(s) for violation of the rules and
regulations. The complainant will be required to attend said hearing to provide eye witness
testimony.
To those responsible pet owners, the Association, landscape company, your
neighbors and particularly children, thank you for picking up after your pet(s).
50 Years of Serving You is Worth Celebrating
South Suburban Parks and Recreation continues its special 50¢ Friday activities commemorating
50 years of service to the community on July 10 at Family Sports Center,
6901 S. Peoria St., in Centennial. Visitors will enjoy 50¢ public skating and 50¢ skate
rental at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.; plus 50¢ kiddie rides all day, 10 a.m.-10:30 p.m.
On Friday, July 24, Buck Recreation Center, 2004 W. Powers Ave. in Littleton will
offer 50¢ admission all day, 5 a.m.-10 p.m. From 6:30-10:30 p.m., grab your letter jacket
and poodle skirt and join the South Suburban and the City of Littleton for a FREE 50th
Anniversary Sock Hop. All ages are welcome to enjoy live “oldies” performed by the
Windjammers Jazz Orchestra with vocalist Charles King. There will be hula hoop, costume
and dance contests, along with door prizes. Food and beverages, including beer and

South Suburban Parks and Recreation is hosting comprehensive blood screenings
conducted by the University of Colorado Hospital from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the following

Keeping a Log of Your Expenses:
One Week May Save You a Lot
Are you spending more money than you need to It’s a nagging
worry, especially these days. Fortunately, you don’t need an
advanced degree in finance and accounting to analyze your
spending.
Try this: Keep track of your spending for one week. Just one
week. Longer, and you’ll get too busy. But you can probably hold
onto your receipts and add them up for seven days. At the end of
the week, separate and categorize your expenses (use a spreadsheet
if that helps you visualize better). You’ll be able to observe
what you’re spending your money on. Chances are you’ll find at
least a few areas where you can cut back.

citizens stormed the medieval fortress and prison known as the
Bastille, freeing seven prisoners.
Working Out Is Good, Weight Loss or No
Exercise is good for you, but as The New York Times notes, it’s
not a cure-all. Though it appears to reduce the risk of heart disease,
for example, studies have shown the greatest benefits go to people
who begin a moderate exercise program after a long period of
being basically sedentary. Moderate walking seems to protect people
from heart disease, but more intensive exercise doesn’t appear
to produce a correspondingly greater benefit. Similarly, studies
have shown that while moderate exercise can decrease one’s risk
of diabetes, it doesn’t necessarily lead to losing weight. And exercise
alone, without any corresponding weight loss, doesn’t seem to
reduce blood pressure or cholesterol levels.
None of this means you shouldn’t exercise. But remember
that it’s still important to understand what health risks you’re facing
and work with your doctor to minimize them.
