Dr. William G. “Billy” James, LDA President from<br />
1965-66, Passes Away<br />
Dr. William G. “Billy” James, 88, died Saturday, December<br />
26, 2009. He was born August 4, 1921, in Boyce. He grew up in<br />
Alex<strong>and</strong>ria <strong>and</strong> graduated from Bolton High School in 1939. He<br />
attended <strong>Louisiana</strong> College <strong>and</strong> received his D.D.S. from Loyola<br />
University in New Orleans. He served as a Lt. in the U.S. Navy<br />
during World War II <strong>and</strong> was stationed in Germany during the<br />
occupation. During this time he had the unique experience of<br />
attending the Nuremberg Trials.<br />
He returned to Alex<strong>and</strong>ria after his term of service <strong>and</strong><br />
established his dental practice. He was a past president of the<br />
Eighth District <strong>Dental</strong> <strong>Association</strong>; president of the <strong>Louisiana</strong><br />
<strong>Dental</strong> <strong>Association</strong> from 1965-1966; president of the Ark-<br />
La-Tex <strong>Dental</strong> Congress from 1982-1983; a member of the<br />
International College of Dentists; <strong>and</strong> a member of the Pierre<br />
Fauchard Academy. He was a lifelong member of the First United<br />
Methodist Church <strong>and</strong> a member of the 50/50 Sunday school<br />
class. Dr. James was a charter member of the Optimist Club, an<br />
avid golfer all his life <strong>and</strong> he <strong>and</strong> his wife also enjoyed traveling.<br />
William G. James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary<br />
Frances Lohman James, three children <strong>and</strong> five gr<strong>and</strong>children.<br />
