video Shorts on Show - Video Production at St Aloysius Ever since 2001 video production at St Aloysius College has steadily grown. Over the years the College has already produced a number of film producers and directors, amongst them producer Richard Brennan (SAC 1959) with News Front, Starstruck, Cosi, Spotswood etc, and Daniel Lapaine (SAC 1988) and Khoa Do (1996) with 48 Shades and Footy Legends this year. Alex Hunter in Will Clark’s Room 137 We have had a number of students make short video films for their HSC Drama and currently at least six recent ex-students have either just finished or are studying filmmaking. Another Aloysian, John Buckmaster (SAC 1988) teaches film production at The Sydney Film School and his brother Peter (SAC 1988) also works in the industry. Three years ago we began the first Year 9 Video Production class as an elective and this year it extended into Year 10. We are one of only a few schools in the State who offer such a course. We have now held three Short Film Evenings called Shorts on Show to showcase the students work and in 2003 Hugo O’Connor instigated the Gonzagarama student-run competition on St Aloysius’ Day. from the registrar Another busy year has come to an end with every year level fully booked for next year as well as Year 7, 2008. Just over 500 boys sat entrance examinations this year which were held in March. Interviews were all held in May and offers of places went out in late May. We now have waitlists for every Year in the school for next year. Orientation Day was held in November this year for all new boys starting in the Junior School as well as for Year 7 next year. The boys participated in sporting and classroom activities including Science, Visual Arts, Music, IT and Languages and were assisted by Prefects and other senior students who managed their group for the day. Parents enjoyed a morning tea and the Junior School new parents had an information session as an introduction as to what they can expect for next year. Open Day will be held next year on Sunday 4 March 2007 from 12noon till 3pm at both Junior and Senior School campuses. A variety and demonstrations and displays will be held, there will be activities for children, and staff, current parents and students of the College will be available to conduct guided tours of both campuses. There is no need to make a booking, just come along and enjoy the afternoon. All applicants need to sit an entrance examination in the year prior to anticipated entry for Years 3, 4 and 5, and two years prior to anticipated entry for Year 7. All entrance examination dates have been set for next year and these, along with closing dates for applications are listed opposite. Academic scholarships are no longer offered from 2007, so no scholarship exam will be held in 2007. However, the College has a Means-Tested Bursary Scheme to offer students an opportunity to avail themselves of a Jesuit education in circumstances when such enrolment is not affordable or sustainable. A number of these bursaries are offered to boys entering Year 7 and Year 11 in 2008 and are reviewed annually. Please contact the Registrar if you would like more details about this scheme.
