Professor Valerie Higgins was awarded her Ph.D.
in Archaeology from the University of Sheffield,
Great Britain, with a thesis on the excavation at
San Vincenzo, an Italian monastery site in the
Apennine mountains. She currently researches
the impact of war on heritage and communal
memory and changing attitudes to the excavation
of human remains in contemporary society.
Dr. Higgins has recently appeared on National
Geographic programming (“Mystery Files”)
providing expert commentary on the life and
times of Cleopatra and BBC World programming
(“Spanning the World”) where she explored the
importance of the Milvian Bridge.

AUR has prepared me for my masters in
Cultural Heritage Studies at University College
London by giving me a hands-on approach to
the study of Archeology and Art History in a
modern day context.
A wonderful excursion to Ghana, where I did
archeological excavations and ethnographic
fieldwork, provided me with contemporary and
theoretical perspectives in Archeology.
