Service Description: The AASC is<br />
a national program that is part of<br />
the Australian Government’s $116m<br />
Building a Healthy, Active Australia<br />
package. It provides primary schoolaged<br />
children with access to free,<br />
structured physical activity programs<br />
in the after-school time slot of 3.00pm<br />
to 5.30pm. This program received a<br />
funding boost in the 2007 Budget and<br />
will now be running until 2010.<br />
The program is designed to engage<br />
traditionally non-active children in<br />
structured physical activities and to<br />
build pathways with local <strong>community</strong><br />
organisations, including sporting<br />
clubs.<br />
Free <strong>community</strong> Coach Training<br />
Courses are run throughout the year<br />
to teach the Game Sense philosophy<br />
to deliverers and other interested<br />
persons.<br />
There are currently 21 schools and<br />
outside school hours care services<br />
involved in the <strong>Bundaberg</strong> region<br />
which extends up to Agnes Water and<br />
out to Mt Perry.<br />
