Service Description: Guide Dogs<br />

Queensland is the State’s leading<br />

provider of Rehabilitation and Guide<br />

Dog services. Our services are<br />

provided throughout the State, free of<br />

charge, to blind and vision impaired<br />

Queenslanders. Those services<br />

include<br />

Orientation and Mobility training<br />

using long canes and other electronic<br />

travel aids.<br />

Breeding and training of Guide Dogs,<br />

for placement with clients.<br />

Provision of Special Education<br />

training to blind and vision impaired<br />

school children.<br />

Rehabilitation counselling for clients<br />

and their families.<br />

Assistance in establishing and<br />

maintaining Support Groups<br />

statewide.<br />

Assistance in coordinating and<br />

facilitating Low Vision clinics<br />

statewide.<br />

Conducts a variety of <strong>community</strong> and<br />

professional education programs.<br />

These can be adapted to medical and<br />

paramedical professionals, vision<br />

impairment program staff, carers and<br />

Service Description: LINKS is a free<br />

program designed to help parents<br />

with a disability or parents of children<br />

with a disability. IMPACT offers oneon-one<br />

support, information sessions,<br />

workshops, counselling, budgeting<br />

services, including IMPACT’s Positive<br />

Parenting Program, and all local<br />

<strong>community</strong> agencies/services. We<br />

also help with transport problems,<br />

child care options, services available<br />

Service Description: PODS stands for<br />

‘Providing Opportunities through Day<br />

Services’. This program is developed<br />

to help young adults (18-24 years old)<br />

<strong>community</strong> outings accessing<br />

resources, woodwork & mechanics,<br />

computer/internet, healthy living<br />

& eating (Menu/meal preparation),<br />

financial literacy, communication/<br />

friendships, fitness, sport & exercise,<br />

recreational activities, supported<br />

Service Description: Latch-On is a<br />

literacy and technology program for<br />

young adults with a disability.<br />

The Latch-On program is offered to<br />

groups of six students aged from 18<br />

years. Each group attends two days<br />

a week. Students graduate after two<br />

years. An optional extension program<br />

is available, where students attend for<br />

one day each week. Special features<br />

of the program:<br />

• Small group and individual tuition<br />

• Access to computer technology<br />

including email, Internet and word<br />

processing<br />

• Linking of computer based learning<br />

with traditional approaches to<br />

literacy teaching<br />

• Access to the <strong>community</strong><br />

• Evaluation component, monitoring<br />

office is Brisbane based we are able<br />

to offer holiday services statewide.<br />

All Life Stream outings are based on<br />

and encouraging independence.<br />
