Service Description: Guide Dogs
Queensland is the State’s leading
provider of Rehabilitation and Guide
Dog services. Our services are
provided throughout the State, free of
charge, to blind and vision impaired
Queenslanders. Those services
include
Orientation and Mobility training
using long canes and other electronic
travel aids.
Breeding and training of Guide Dogs,
for placement with clients.
Provision of Special Education
training to blind and vision impaired
school children.
Rehabilitation counselling for clients
and their families.
Assistance in establishing and
maintaining Support Groups
statewide.
Assistance in coordinating and
facilitating Low Vision clinics
statewide.
Conducts a variety of community and
professional education programs.
These can be adapted to medical and
paramedical professionals, vision
impairment program staff, carers and
HAAC workers, school teachers and
the wider commercial organisations.

Service Description: LINKS is a free
program designed to help parents
with a disability or parents of children
with a disability. IMPACT offers oneon-one
support, information sessions,
workshops, counselling, budgeting
advice, links to community support
services, including IMPACT’s Positive
Parenting Program, and all local
community agencies/services. We
also help with transport problems,
child care options, services available
through Centrelink, and developing
personal and practical life and
parenting skills.

Service Description: PODS stands for
‘Providing Opportunities through Day
Services’. This program is developed
to help young adults (18-24 years old)
with a disability. Through individual
personal plans, we will provide
mentoring, training and support.
Day Activities & Training will include
community outings accessing
resources, woodwork & mechanics,
computer/internet, healthy living
& eating (Menu/meal preparation),
financial literacy, communication/
friendships, fitness, sport & exercise,
recreational activities, supported
access to community engagement.

Service Description: Latch-On is a
literacy and technology program for
young adults with a disability.
The Latch-On program is offered to
groups of six students aged from 18
years. Each group attends two days
a week. Students graduate after two
years. An optional extension program
is available, where students attend for
one day each week. Special features
of the program:
• Small group and individual tuition
• Access to computer technology
including email, Internet and word
processing
• Linking of computer based learning
with traditional approaches to
literacy teaching
• Access to the community
• Evaluation component, monitoring
ongoing literacy and personal
development
• Health and fitness component
