Service Description: The St Vincent<br />

de Paul Society has been helping<br />

Queenslanders in need since 1894.<br />

Every day the Society’s 8,000<br />

volunteers and members help<br />

those who are struggling to take<br />

control of their lives whilst restoring<br />

their dignity; providing a hand up,<br />

not just a hand out. Young adult<br />

volunteers are a unique group of<br />

young people who are willing to<br />

share their precious time and skills<br />

with people in the <strong>community</strong> and<br />

in overseas aid. The Society runs<br />

youth based activities and has had<br />

particular success running Buddies<br />

Days monthly, with the assistance<br />

of <strong>Bundaberg</strong> youth, to assist<br />

training including: Career advice<br />

all aspects of job search training,<br />

accredited training, team, leadership<br />

& social skills advancement, selfesteem,<br />

motivation, life planning,<br />

life skills development, <strong>community</strong><br />

involvement, assistance with<br />

personal barriers & welfare issues,<br />

assisting young people connect with<br />

have been through a) substance and<br />

alcohol abuse rehabilitation and b)<br />

youth at risk. We offer the following<br />

alternative education, furniture and<br />

bicycle restoration, nursery, computer<br />

training, hospitality and gardening.<br />

YOUTH SUPPORT COORDINATOR:<br />

Works with young people (and their<br />

families) who are at risk of leaving<br />

school prematurely. Provides needs<br />

assessment, advocacy, referral<br />
