Grant Workshop<br />
Strengthening nonprofits<br />
Local nonprofits learned how to<br />
write a compelling grant request<br />
at a workshop held on May 7 at<br />
the <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong>.<br />
There was a full house, with 36<br />
individuals representing 26<br />
different local organizations<br />
attending.<br />
The workshop was led by<br />
Edmond Talucci, former employee<br />
of the Indiana State<br />
Department of Health where he<br />
served 25 years in grant and<br />
contract administration. Talucci, a<br />
current grants committee<br />
member of the <strong>Community</strong><br />
<strong>Foundation</strong>, offered valuable<br />
insight into grant writing best<br />
practices and gave live demonstrations<br />
of the grant application<br />
process, including a new online<br />
preliminary application.<br />
Approximately $90,000 will be<br />
granted this year from the<br />
<strong>Foundation</strong>’s competitive grantmaking.<br />

piece of the approximate $430,000 total that will be<br />
distributed this year.<br />
The Grants Committee of the <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> will<br />
review and consider each proposal submitted and make funding<br />
recommendations to the Board of Directors. Evaluation<br />
will be based on the project's feasibility, soundness of its<br />
implementation plan, viability of subsequent long-term financing,<br />
and fulfillment of community need.<br />

Ray and Clarissa Hochgesang<br />
Family Endowment<br />
Established May 10, <strong>2013</strong><br />
For Kathy Fuhs and her family, farming is not simply an occupation, but a<br />
way of life. After the passing of her parents, Kathy decided to celebrate<br />
their memory through the creation of an endowment with the <strong>Community</strong><br />
<strong>Foundation</strong>.<br />
Her parents’ love of farming, which had always “put food on the table” for<br />
their family, inspired Kathy to set up the Ray and Clarissa Hochgesang<br />
Endowment. The fund commemorates their lives by supporting the local<br />
food bank, ultimately putting food on the tables of those in need. Now,<br />
every year, the family’s legacy will be carried out through contributions to<br />
the <strong>Community</strong> Food bank in Jasper, and countless local families will<br />
benefit from this heart-felt contribution.<br />
