*IMPORTANT- The Consulate issues each <strong>student</strong> a <strong>visa</strong> <strong>for</strong> the duration of their program plus 2 weeks<br />

(14 days). There<strong>for</strong>e, the date you arrive <strong>in</strong> Italy <strong>an</strong>d the date you depart, as shown on your<br />

it<strong>in</strong>erary, must not exceed the program dates by more th<strong>an</strong> 2 weeks. If you w<strong>an</strong>t to stay past the<br />

departure date <strong>for</strong> more th<strong>an</strong> 2 weeks, you have to arr<strong>an</strong>ge that yourself at the police station <strong>in</strong> Florence,<br />

or Perugia. You <strong>will</strong> have to ch<strong>an</strong>ge your <strong>visa</strong> from a <strong>student</strong> to tourist <strong>for</strong> <strong>an</strong>y days you stay past those<br />

extra 2 weeks, <strong>an</strong>d ch<strong>an</strong>ge the departure date of your ticket.<br />

Proof of f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial me<strong>an</strong>s<br />

You must show enough funds to cover the program fee AND approximately $500 per month <strong>in</strong> Italy.<br />

There are no exceptions to this. The follow<strong>in</strong>g are examples of proof of f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial me<strong>an</strong>s- contact<br />

your local consulate to confirm what they <strong>will</strong> or <strong>will</strong> not accept as proof of f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial me<strong>an</strong>s:<br />

1. Official letter from your f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial aid office<br />

If you are us<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial aid, you must have your f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial aid office write a letter ON LETTERHEAD<br />

stat<strong>in</strong>g how much aid you <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> awarded <strong>an</strong>d when the aid <strong>will</strong> <strong>be</strong> disbursed. This aid c<strong>an</strong> <strong>in</strong>clude<br />

scholarships, gr<strong>an</strong>ts, <strong>an</strong>d lo<strong>an</strong>s. This must <strong>be</strong> SIGNED by a f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial aid officer, <strong>an</strong>d the Consulate<br />

needs the ORIGINAL. The f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial aid paperwork you submit to CIS <strong>for</strong> our bill<strong>in</strong>g purposes IS NOT<br />

ACCEPTABLE by the Consulate.<br />

2. Official letter from your b<strong>an</strong>k<br />

Ask your b<strong>an</strong>k to write a letter stat<strong>in</strong>g the available funds <strong>in</strong> your accounts. The letter must <strong>an</strong><br />

ORIGINAL, ON LETTERHEAD <strong>an</strong>d SIGNED by a staff mem<strong>be</strong>r from the b<strong>an</strong>k. You CANNOT use a<br />

b<strong>an</strong>k statement. If you b<strong>an</strong>k through B<strong>an</strong>k of America or if your b<strong>an</strong>k does not issue such letters, ask<br />

the b<strong>an</strong>k to sign <strong>an</strong>d notarize <strong>an</strong> orig<strong>in</strong>al b<strong>an</strong>k statement. This is the only exception to receiv<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

letter.<br />

3. Official letter from a parent/guardi<strong>an</strong>’s b<strong>an</strong>k AND a notarized statement of parental/guardi<strong>an</strong> f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial<br />

support<br />

If your parents are f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>ci<strong>all</strong>y responsible <strong>for</strong> you, you must present a notarized affidavit stat<strong>in</strong>g that<br />

they <strong>will</strong> f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>ci<strong>all</strong>y support you while you are abroad AND a letter from their b<strong>an</strong>k stat<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

available funds <strong>in</strong> their account(s). This letter must <strong>be</strong> <strong>an</strong> ORIGINAL, ON LETTERHEAD <strong>an</strong>d<br />

SIGNED by a staff mem<strong>be</strong>r from the b<strong>an</strong>k. BOTH documents are necessary if your parents/guardi<strong>an</strong>s<br />

are support<strong>in</strong>g you.<br />

If your parents/guardi<strong>an</strong>s b<strong>an</strong>k through B<strong>an</strong>k of America or if their b<strong>an</strong>k does not issue such letters,<br />

ask the b<strong>an</strong>k to sign <strong>an</strong>d notarize <strong>an</strong> orig<strong>in</strong>al b<strong>an</strong>k statement. This is the only exception to receiv<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

letter.<br />

4. Official Letter from Private Lo<strong>an</strong> agency<br />

If you have taken out private lo<strong>an</strong>s that are NOT on your f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial aid award letter, you may ask your<br />

lender to write <strong>an</strong> ORIGINAL letter ON LETTERHEAD stat<strong>in</strong>g the available lo<strong>an</strong> amounts <strong>an</strong>d their<br />

disbursement dates. Please check with your f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial aid office to see if the lo<strong>an</strong> is already on your<br />

f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial aid award letter <strong>be</strong><strong>for</strong>e pursu<strong>in</strong>g this option.<br />

5. Official letter from a credit card comp<strong>an</strong>y stat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>an</strong> available bal<strong>an</strong>ce<br />

If you have completed the above options, <strong>an</strong>d you still do not have enough funds, you may ask your<br />

credit card comp<strong>an</strong>y to submit <strong>an</strong> ORIGINAL letter ON LETTERHEAD stat<strong>in</strong>g your available bal<strong>an</strong>ce.<br />

A statement <strong>will</strong> NOT work. This letter should only SUPPLEMENT the f<strong>in</strong><strong>an</strong>cial aid letter <strong>an</strong>d b<strong>an</strong>k<br />

letters.<br />

ONLY orig<strong>in</strong>al materials c<strong>an</strong> <strong>be</strong> accepted. Faxes, photocopies, <strong>an</strong>d emails are NOT acceptable.
