Sydney is home to Fox Studios Australia, one of the 

largest studio facilities in the southern hemisphere, 

conveniently located close to the CBD. 

Films such as Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, Wolverine, 

Superman Returns, Star Wars Episodes II & III, The Matrix 

trilogy, Moulin Rouge and Mission Impossible II and have 

taken advantage of Fox Studios’ world-class production 

facilities. 

Eight stages cater for productions of every scale, 

supported by production office space, post-production 

houses for both picture and sound, and digital and special 

effects, plus a purpose-built orchestral scoring stage. 

State-of-the-art communications links including highspeed 

internet access, telestreaming and secure ftp sites 

allow international image and sound transfer, while 

backlot areas provide for exterior filming, construction 

workshops and storage. 

In addition to Fox Studios, New South Wales boasts a 

range of smaller studios that offer high quality facilities 

and services, catering specifically to the needs of small to 

medium sized productions. 

New South Wales is a world leader in post and digital 

production, visual effects, animation, music and sound 

design. 

Films such as Charlotte’s Web, 300, Harry Potter & The 

Order of the Phoenix, Death Defying Acts, The Painted 

Veil, Lord of the Rings, Hero and House of Flying Daggers 

are outstanding examples of the wealth of creative digital 

and post-production talent that exists in NSW. 

NSW is also a first-class centre for animation with 

expertise in traditional cell animation, modeling and 

computer-generated imagery, servicing both television 

commercials and features. The Academy Award winning 

film Happy Feet was produced entirely in Sydney’s 

animation and post-production houses. 

Telestreaming, high-speed internet, secure ftp sites 

and a time-zone difference that works to international 

advantage, enable seamless communication with studios

The New South Wales Film and Television O ffice (FTO) 

The New South Wales Film and Television Office (FTO) is funded by the Australian state 

government of NSW and plays a critical role in the NSW screen industry. The FTO has a 

Production Liaison Unit (PLU) dedicated to facilitating local and offshore production and 

to secure on-going support from government agencies for film production in New South 

Wales (NSW). 

The PLU also maintains an extensive location resource library with a digital photo 

database and background material. The unit can assist with sourcing information on cast 

and crew, facilities, equipment hire, state and federal tax incentives, immigration and 

industrial conditions, co-production treaties, filming protocols and advice on all aspects 

of filming in NSW.
