2.1.1.3 Datalogger<br />
<strong>CR200</strong>(X)s can measure most sensors with an electrical response. <strong>CR200</strong>(X)s<br />
measure electrical signals and convert the measurement to engineering units,<br />
perform calculations and reduce data to statistical values. Every measurement<br />
does not need to be stored. The <strong>CR200</strong>(X) will store data in memory awaiting<br />
transfer to the PC via external storage devices or telecommunications.<br />
2.1.1.4 Data Retrieval<br />
The main objective of a data acquisition system is to provide data files on a PC.<br />
Data are copied, not moved, from the <strong>CR200</strong>(X) to the PC. Multiple users may<br />
have access to the same <strong>CR200</strong>(X) without compromising data or coordinating<br />
data collection activities.<br />
A RS-232 port is integrated with the <strong>CR200</strong>(X) wiring panel to facilitate data<br />
collection.<br />
On-site serial communications are preferred if the datalogger is near the PC, and<br />
the PC can dedicate a serial (COM) port for the datalogger or use a USB-toserial<br />
converter. On-site methods such as direct serial connection or infrared<br />
link are also used when the user visits a remote site with a laptop or PDA.<br />
In contrast, telecommunications provide remote access and the ability to<br />
discover problems early with minimum data loss. Typically a base station radio<br />
that is compatible with the radio internal to the <strong>CR200</strong>(X) will be the preferred<br />
method of telecommunication. A variety of devices, such as telephone modems,<br />
satellite transceivers, and TCP/IP network modems may be interfaced with the<br />
base station for the most demanding applications.<br />
2.1.2 <strong>CR200</strong>(X) Mounting<br />
The <strong>CR200</strong>(X) module integrates electronics within a compact housing, making<br />
it economical, small, and very rugged.<br />
2.1.3 Wiring Panel<br />
As shown in FIGURE. <strong>CR200</strong>(X) Wiring Panel p. 5, the <strong>CR200</strong>(X) provides<br />
terminals for connecting sensors, power and communications devices. Internal<br />
surge protection is incorporated with the input channels.<br />
The <strong>CR200</strong>(X) uses spring-loaded terminal blocks for connecting sensors and<br />
peripherals. This provides quick, vibration resistant connections. To attach<br />
wires, insert a small flat blade screwdriver into the slot and push back. Insert<br />
the wire and then bring the screwdriver forward.<br />
Caution! Opening a terminal by prying the end may cause damage,<br />
particularly at low temperatures.<br />
